Apokoliptan weapons have been supplied by the forces of Apokolips to various factions on Earth. There are a number of different weapon designs with different functions.
Weapon designs[]
Several different weapons are known to have reached Earth. Many have the ability to mask their user's heat signature, and typically share a common design aesthetic of black metal with red-lit highlights.[1]
- Disc-firing harness: A harness worn over the shoulders deploys a cannon over the chest, a visor in front of the face and twin joystick controls at the sides. The visor can filter out illusions. The cannon is able to fire energy blasts as well as at least two types of discs.[1] Similar looking discs have also been seen being carried as independent weapons.[2]
- Shock discs: These discs automatically target, follow and surround a target, then produce an electric field to shock and disable the target. This is not only effective against humanoid individuals,[1] but also a New Genesian vehicle like the Super-Cycle.[3] Multiple discs need to work in concert however, and they are fairly fragile can easily destroyed by a single energy blast[1] or bolt of lightning.[4]
- Encasement discs: A single disc hits its target and pulls earth and rock together to create a spherical shell surrounding them.[1]
- Mire generating harness: A second harness type has a set of gloves attached. Touching the ball-like gloves to the ground turns an area of the ground in front of the user into a quick sand-like mire that causes anyone standing in the area to sink.[1]
- Energy whip: A solid handle generates a strand of energy when activated, which can be used as a whip against targets. The whips are able to grow in length as needed.[1] At least some whip handles have a golden colour, rather than the black typical of other Apokoliptan weapons.[3]
- Staff: Primarily used as a melee weapon,[1] the Apokoliptan staves are also capable of generating arcs of energy from their forked end.[5] The staves are sturdy weapons, but not so much so that Superboy had any trouble bending one during a fight.[1] Parademons carry similar staves, but with with gold, black and silver coloration. The Parademon's staves can fire straight blasts and beams of energy[6] or act as shock sticks;[7] it is unknown if the staves supplied to Earth can do the same.
- Energy cannon: One of the more straightforward of weapons by Earth standards; a large, carbine-like weapon which fires bolts of red energy. It is more powerful than the whip, able to take down Halo's shield.[3]
- Energy rifle: Another relatively simple weapon, energy rifles were kept in stock on the Orphanage[8] as well as being supplied to Earth.[9]
History[]
2010[]
By late 2010, Apokolips had supplied weapons to the Light as part of their deal with Darkseid. Weapons were used by a unit of the Bialyan Republican Army during Queen Bee's attempt to take control of Qurac,[2] and League of Shadows ninjas during an ambush of the Team. The Team was able to confiscate some of these weapons and use them against the Light.[5]
Intergang also recieved weapons from Desaad, and used them to attempt to resist the Forever People's efforts to retrieve stolen tech from them.[1]
2016[]
Several League of Shadows ninjas at the summit between the Light and the Reach in Santa Prisca used Apokoliptan staves.[10]
2018[]
The Light still had Apokoliptan weapons in their possession, which were used by their agents, including the Bedlam Syndicate.[11]
When Ra's al Ghul left the Light and League of Shadows, he retained at least some of the League's Apokoliptan weaponry; Ubu used a disc harness when defending Infinity Island against an incurision by Brion Markov and his friends.[4]
