Arkham Asylum is a mental institution in Gotham City.
History[]
Arkham houses the legally insane criminals of Gotham City.[1] Mister Freeze had his own special cell,[2] and Joker would also be sent there after arrests.[3] Riddler resisted the notion of being sent there.[4]
Mad Hatter was paroled from Arkham; a condition of his parole was that he wore no hats.[5] Clayface was also released from Arkham after their psychiatrists, Miss Martian and Batman were convinced he was sincerely rehabilitated. He began a new life as Harlan Matthews, working for Bowhunter Security.[6]
Known inmates[]
- Clayface[7] (on parole)[6]
- Joker[3]
- Mister Freeze (transferred)[2]
- Mad Hatter (on parole)[5]
Background information[]
Arkham Asylum is a holding and rehabilitation facility for some of Batman's foes (other foes get taken to Blackgate Penitentiary). Several of the facility's administrators, such as Hugo Strange and even the founder Dr. Amadeus Arkham, have ended up in cells at Arkham after being driven insane.
