Babylon was the capital city of the ancient empire of Babylonia. By 1,800 BCE,[1] it was ruled by Marduk, later known as Vandal Savage.
History[]
Around the second millennium BCE, Marduk established himself as a demigod hero, and came to rule Babylonia. His son Nabu came to be regarded as a god of wisdom by the Babylonians. Marduk was frustrated by his independent-minded generals and, in 1,800 BCE,[1] Klarion apporaoched him with a possible solution. Against Nabu's advice, he accepted Klarion's help, and Klarion summoned a star creature from deep space to Babylon to take control of the Babylonian army. It immediately became clear that the army was under the creature's control, not Marduk's, and Marduk, Nabu and Ishtar fought the army. Though Nabu was killed, Marduk and Ishtar prevailed and killed the star creature. Later a funeral was held for Nabu.[2][3]
At some point during the time of ancient Babylonia, the alien weapon Tiamat was loosed upon the Earth. According to legend, the Mesopotamian gods chose Marduk to face her. Marduk petitioned the gods to use the power of lightning and rain to fight her. He defeated her and sealed her away at what became Marduk's Temple, but died in the process. He was then inducted into the Babaylonian pantheon as the god of gods. What did not pass into legend was that Marduk used the Tablet of Destiny to defeat Tiamat,[4] and that Marduk was a meta-human with immortality.[2]
