The Bat family is an informal name used by the heroes and protégés associated with Batman to collectively refer to themselves.[1] The younger members are also referred to as Bat brats by themselves and their enemies.[2]

History[]

Bruce Wayne became Batman in 1999.[3]

Following the murder of his parents on April 1st, 2006,[4], Dick Grayson was taken in by Bruce and became his protégé, Robin.[5]

In 2013,[6][7] Dick took on the name Nightwing,[8] and Jason Todd became the new Robin. Jason was killed[9] later the same year.[10]

Also in 2013,[11] Barbara Gordon became Batgirl.[8]

Tim Drake became the third Robin[8] in early 2015,[12]

In 2016,[13] Kate Kane[14] became Batwoman.[15]

In 2017,[16] Stephanie Brown became Spoiler.[15]

In January,[17] 2018, Batgirl was injured by a League of Shadows assassin as Batgirl prevented her from killing the Joker. The assassin, Cassandra Wu-San, was taken in by the Bat family and became Orphan.[1] Barbara then took on the identity of Oracle.[15]
