Bette Kane was a student at Gotham Academy.

Physical appearance[]

Bette is a girl in her mid-teens. She has blue eyes and medium length curly blonde hair. She wears the Gotham Academy uniform when in school.[4] Five years later she's shown to be quite taller with a slender frame. Her hair has fewer curls and is longer being worn tied back into a low ponytail. She is seen wearing a black cocktail dress with two bangles on her right arm and white stud earrings.[5]

Artemis meets Bette and Dick

Bette tries to welcome Artemis to Gotham Academy but is interrupted by Dick's shenanigans.

Bette welcomed new student Artemis Crock on the first day of the new school year. She acted as her student liaison at Gotham Academy. When Dick Grayson took an unexpected photo of himself with Artemis, Bette flippantly told Artemis to ignore the freshman and continued to show her around.[6][4]

When all adults went missing, Bette and Barbara helped shelter many younger children in the Gotham Academy. She played with a couple of babies to keep them calm.[7]

Bette dragged Artemis along to crash the birthday party of Dick Grayson, the richest kid in Gotham, though neither knew him well. They were met at the door by the Manor butler although Dick welcomed them himself quickly.[8]

After graduating school, Bette moved to Blüdhaven.[11]

Bette had spent the night with a handsome boy whose name she had forgotten. She overheard him talking to someone, caught that it was his birthday and congratulated him. She didn't like that she was older than him—and promised she wasn't much older. But he already knew her name and age, and she realized why when she saw a yearbook on his table: they both went to Gotham Academy. She wanted to stay with him longer, but she had to go to work.[5]

Background information[]

  • In the comics, Elizabeth "Betty" Kane was the first "Bat-Girl," having worked alongside her aunt Kathy Kane (Batwoman). Later, following the introduction of Barbara Gordon as the new Batgirl, was reworked as tennis star Mary Elizabeth "Bette" Kane, first known as Flamebird and later temporarily as Hawkfire. Currently, she's active as a member of the Titans West alongside Dawn Granger/Dove, Karen Beecher/Bumblebee and Hank Hall/Hawk.
  • Greg Weisman indicated she was not active as Batgirl or Flamebird in Young Justice during season one.[12]
  • Young Justice marks Bette Kane's first animated appearance.
