- "First Impression"
- The Reach are back, terrorizing smalltown America... unless the Outsiders can stop them!
Mystery Inc was a pretty good show, with a delicious cast. It didn't do well for a similar reason as YJ: it had a heavy overarching story that meant episodes couldn't be aired out of order and could not serve as quick slot filler.
I like how they called the show the Outsiders, tease us with teams that are full of comics Outsiders (Batman's team and Nightwing's team) and then call use it for a team with barely any connection.
So Cyborg now lives with Beast Boy and the Outsiders. I honestly don't know if they'll have the iconic friendship they have in other media. They pretty much changed anything you'd expect from Teen Titans, like how they basically avoided Terra being BB's crush again by bringing back Perdita, which I though was genius.
Terra was BB's crush back in New Teen Titans, so it would be hard to blame them for "again".
I wish they'd gone for an entirely new concept rather than do the whole Terra thing, though. We've had it twice already.
So this weeks offering was on the weak side for me for a couple of reasons.
The villain and action of this week's show was okay but not as good as the past few weeks. Its fair considering we have had Onslaught and Granny Goodness but too me watching this episode I thought Intergang was weak as hell. They could not have picked a better villain? But then I suppose we don't want them throwing out A or B level villains every week.
The Terra stuff is interesting but only because of the choices they have with the character. They have her speak a lot in her debut and no lines her next four appearances. You can get a lot done with non-verbal but it feel like having her speak would add more to the story.
I hate the overuse of catchphrases and lines that have been used in earlier seasons. I can do with one a week like when Nightwing scolded Geo-Force, Halo, and Forager for Infinity Island "You Will NOT be doing this again speech". But when you use too many in such a short span it feels like we are just recycling lines and catchphrases from the early seasons instead of creating new lines. The overuse of "Today is the Day", "Get on Board or Get out of our way" just annoys me.
I also feel like there are now so many different teams with each roster becoming more fluid then the next. I feel like we have too many characters now what with The Justice League Earth, Justice League Space, Batman Inc, Robin's Squad, The Team, The Outsiders. TOO MANY CHARACTERS. I wonder if we are gonna start seeing characters get bumped off now because I feel like the amount of heroes and villains is too much to focus on one single group for too long.
Let me focus on the good for a second.
I like the interplay between what Older Generations think of Heroes and what newer Generations think of heroes. It feels like a play on the real world fight between older and younger generation people as well as the good social media can do. A lot of the past episodes have focused on the bad things that happen on the internet and social media so it was nice to get the positives.
All those acting lessons really helped Beast Boy because he has so many speeches in this episode. But you can see how important he is and how big of a character he is becoming. However I do have concerns about BB that I will keep to myself for now.
All of you can say what you want about the character relationships in this season but we all have to acknowledge the cutest relationship is between Forger and The Bio-Ship.
As someone who enjoyed Scooby-Doo it has been years since I heard those references and man it made me miss those shows.
Thought this was a good episode and it was good to get back toward focusing on The Team, though with a new twist (and YJ's own take on everything that's been associated with the Teen Titans).
The only Scooby reference they missed was their version of Shaggy (though I can understand why they wouldn't actually drop a version of Scooby in -- unless you count Brucely in the end credits. ;) )
I'm still not convinced that Terra is going exactly the way she's gone in Judas Contract. The YJ creative team is known for their own twist on things.
In fact, I think it's more likely that Helga is the one working with Deathstroke than anybody else.

That's what I was thinking with this episode.
After seeing that flashback with Terra, I still wonder why she's working with Deathstroke. It really baffels me this time.

These lines are put there on purpose to show parallels between the S1 Team and this team.
Favorite parts:
On an ominous note, I fear Tara's betrayal will come to fruition. Then again, conflict is a must.
Hope to see what's next.
My favorite part: the Wonder Woman plushie
How many plushies does Artemis have exactly?
