Etrigan was bound to Jason Blood by his half-brother, Merlin.[2]

Phantom Stranger and Zatanna's students appeared in Blood's sanctum sanctorum. The Stranger confirmed that Blood had sensed the wave of chaos energy caused by the arrival of Child. A reluctant Blood was convinced to summon Etrigan, who expressed his lack of interest in helping, though he had no choice. The Stranger teleported Etrigan to the site of Klarion and Child's battle.[2]

Etrigan gleefully joined the battle. He attempted to get to Child but was blocked by Flaw, who proved immune to the demon's fire breath. Etrigan climbed up the slab of earth raised by Child and leapt down upon her. He breathed fire, reducing her to a skeleton, but she reappeared from her own eye socket and blasted him back. Child soon forced Klarion's retreat and left to follow him. In the aftermath, Etrigan transformed back to Blood.[2]
