Green Lantern: The Animated Series (GLTAS) is an animated television series which ran for one season of 26 episodes. It first aired on Cartoon Network as part of the DC Nation block alongside Young Justice. It premiered on November 11, 2011, with its final episode debuting on March 16, 2013.
The show is heavily referenced in the Young Justice: Phantoms episode "Encounter Upon the Razor's Edge!", which features the original character of Razer, references other unique characters and plotlines, and involved numerous GLTAS alumni behind the scenes, including the episode's writers, GLTAS producers Giancarlo Volpe and Jim Krieg. Young Justice producer Greg Weisman has since declared the show canon "adjacent",[1] meaning a similar but distinct version of events happened in Earth-16.[2]
Episode synopses[]
101. Beware My Power, Part One[]
Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and Kilowog commandeer an experimental spaceship, the Interceptor, to go on an unauthorized mission to investigate the deaths of Green Lanterns in distant Frontier Space. Using Ultra-Warp against the advice of the ship's navigational computer, Aya, gets them to their destination, barely. They find Green Lantern Shyir Rev under attack by previously unheard of Red Lanterns. They manage to rescue Rev and defeat the Red Lanterns, though not before Hal's Green power ring runs out of charge. Back on the Interceptor, Hal vows to stop the Red Lanterns.
102. Beware My Power, Part Two[]
While teleconferencing with the Guardians of the Universe about recent events, the Interceptor is attacked by a drone and its ultra-warp engine is damaged, preventing them from returning to Oa for help. They go to Rev's home colony to seek medical help for him. They find too late that the drone left a tracer on the ship, and the Red Lanterns arrive, led by Atrocitus. He offers the people of the colony protection if they turn over the Green Lanterns, and threatens to destroy them with a Planet-Killer bomb if they do not. As the Green Lanterns try to disable the bomb, they fight Red Lantern Razer, who insists it is the Guardians who are the destroyers of worlds. They are unable to stop the bomb, Rev stays with it to buy the others time and is killed in the detonation. Hal is attacked by an enraged Razer, but Hal defeats him and takes him prisoner. Kilowog manages to rescue the population on a giant ring construct, and they take them to a new world.
103. Razer's Edge[]
The Lanterns take Razer, who now views both Red and Green Lanterns as his enemy, to a Spider Guild-run prison asteroid. One the Lanterns leave, the Spiders take Razer and strap him into a torture device that forces him to relive his greatest pain, the death of his wife Ilana, which led him to becoming a Red Lantern. Meanwhile, the Green Lanterns discover a stowaway on the Interceptor, an escaped prisoner named Goggan, who tells them of the torture at the prison. They sneak back and infiltrate, but yellow crystals in the asteroid disable their power rings, and they are caught. Aya uploads herself into the asteroid to help, but is blocked by the yellow rocks, so instead finds Razer, enters his torture program, and releases him. Razer frees the Green Lanterns before the Spiders can eat them, and they defeat the Spiders. Razer then hands his Red power ring back to the Green Lanterns. They imprison the Spiders and hand control of the prison to Goggan until the Guardians can send a replacement. Hal gives Razer his ring back, now considering him part of their crew, despite Kilowog's misgivings.
104. Into the Abyss[]
The Interceptor receives a distress call from a cargo ship caught in a gravimetric pinhole. The ship is carrying the eggs of a rare species. The crew attaches cables to the cargo ship to try to pull it out, taking the captain back to the Interceptor. As the Lanterns try to fix the cargo ships engines, the Interceptor loses power and Aya stops responding. The captain panics and tries to leave with the Interceptor, but only succeeds in breaking the tow lines, so the cargo ship starts to fall back into the pinhole. Hal insists they save the eggs despite the others' objections, and they continue to try to fix the engines, but are thwarted by what they believe are hatchlings eating the power lines. It turns out the "hatchlings" are in fact small robots under Aya's control, which she uses to fix the engines. Hal pilots them to safety. Later, Aya demonstrates that the small robots can combine, giving her a humanoid body.
105. Heir Apparent[]
The Interceptor detects a Green Lantern ring on planet called Betrassus. They meet the Green Lantern there, Dulok, who soon after challenges the warrior Kothak to a duel to prevent him marrying the planet's Queen Iolande and becoming ruler. When the time of the duel comes, Dulok is nowhere to be found. Hal volunteers to replace him to prevent the marriage and as he trains, Dulok's dead body is found, but not his ring. Kilowog deduces that he was killed by Iolande's brother Ragnar, who hoped to become a Green Lantern himself. They trick Ragnar into exposing himself, and in the ensuing battle it is revealed Dulok's ring had chosen Iolande, who defeats Ragnar. Kothak realizes Iolande is fit to rule on her own, but this means Iolande is unable to join the other Green Lanterns fight against the Red Lanterns.
106. Lost Planet[]
The Interceptor follows a Green Lantern ring to a planet about to be hit by a large asteroid. The planet is littered with crashed spaceships, and the crew encounters several castaways. Razer meets one called Saint Walker, who informs him they are all pirate ships and the castaways criminals. Other castaways attack the Green Lanterns and attempt to commandeer the Interceptor, but are fought off, seemingly with help from the planet itself. Hal realizes the planet is sentient and has been chosen by the ring. He drills a hole deep into the ground and drops the ring in, and Mogo becomes the newest member of the Green Lantern Corps and saves himself from the asteroid.
107. Reckoning[]
The Interceptor is stealthily tailing Shard, the Red Lantern's base and mothership. Razer, whose ring is losing charge, leaves the ship, sabotaging it to cover his exit. A quick reset soon solves the problem, but Razer is gone. Razer attempts to recharge his ring and kill Atrocitus, but is captured and tortured. The Green Lanterns deduce Razer's intention to seek revenge and move to rescue him, infiltrating Shard. Hal poses as a Red soldier and encounters Cleric Loran, who desfribes the scripture of the Red Lanterns; that the Guardians unleashed their Manhunters on the people of the Forgotten Zone who would not worship them. Hal and Kilowog then succesfully save Razer from execution, and Razer takes Atrocitus personal Red power battery. Aya downloads data from Shard's computers but is caught. Razer goes to rescue Aya. During his fight with Atrocitus, the Red leader reveals he killed Razer's wife to make him into a Red Lantern. Enraged, Razer overpowers Atrocitus, but forgoes his chance to kill him to save Aya and escape. On the Interceptor, Aya accesses the data she stole, revealing a fleet of hundreds of Red warships.
108. Fear Itself[]
The crew visit a planet in search of supplies. Hal and Kilowog find their rings do not work. Kilowog befriends some villagers called the Zoar, who are under threat by "monsters" called the Nidara. Hal, meanwhile is rescued by a Nidara. Hal finds the planet is rich with the same yellow rock from the prison asteroid, Aurem, which causes fear and paranoia in humanoids. The Nidara are not attacking the Zoar, but trying to prevent them using Aurem, which they use for everything from food to clothing. Kilowog, under the influence of Aurem, leads the Zoar in an attack on the Nidara, but Hal eventually gets the truth through to him, and they convince the villagers to stop using Aurem. The Green Lanterns leave the Zoar in peaceful coexistence with the Nidara, but Kilowog must also leave behind Galia, a Zoar he fell in love with.
109. ...In Love and War[]
The Interceptor is attacked by a space monster. The crew are rescued by what appear to be Violet Lanterns, who calm the creature. They then introduce themselves as the Star Saphhires Aga'po and Ghia'ta and invite the crew to their homeworld of Zamaron. En route, Aga'po notices Kilowog is down about leaving Galia. Galia then receives a Violet power ring on her homeworld. On Zamaron, the Star Sapphires explain they are of the same race as the Guardians, but left them long ago as they disagreed with their lack of emotion. They are an all female society, believing that is more peaceful. Kilowog soon finds Galia among the Sapphires and pursues her, while Ghia'ta unsuccessfully attempts to seduce Hal. When Aya tries to contact Kilowog, he does not respond; he has been encased in crystal by Galia.
When it becomes clear that Hal's feelings for Carol Ferris are preventing him from falling for Ghia'ta, Aga'po sends a Violet ring to Carol. She takes the ring and enters a portal from Earth to Zamaron. Carol arrives and is shocked to discover Hal is Green Lantern, and is immediately jealous of Ghia'ta and goes into a rage, affected by the transformation into a Star Sapphire. Hal finally talks Carol down, and then explains his long absence from Earth. Carol understands and refuses Ghia'ta's suggestion to hold Hal there. She explains that that would be selfish, not an act of love, before giving back the power ring and returning to Earth. Meanwhile, Aga'po has confronted Razer as he attempts to help Kilowog. She senses his true love and notes that Aya has taken her form, something Razer had not realized until then. Hal frees Kilowog, and they then help Razer and Aya escape to the Interceptor. Aga'po sends the space monster after them once more, but Ghia'ta calms it, and the Interceptor escapes. Ghia'ta has learned from Carol, and is determined to pass the lesson on to her comrades.
110. Regime Change[]
In his prison cell on Betrassus, Ragnar receives a Red power ring. On Oa, the Green Lantern Corps is dispatched to help Hal and the others, but Ganthet worries it will take too long. Meanwhile, Hal discusses the plan with Appa Ali Apsa, unhappy that the Guardians have forgone diplomacy in favor of a full assault. The call is interrupted by a distress call from Betrassus. The crew arrives to find that Red Lanterns have installed Ragnar as king. The crew are forced to flee, and are helped by Kothak and his rebels. They are dismayed to learn that the Red Lanterns have a Planet-Killer bomb on Betrassus. Hal contacts Sayd and Ganthet to again suggest convincing the Red Lanterns that Atrocitus is lying about the Guardians being the destroyers, but the Guardians admit it is true; the Manhunters, robot predecessors of the Green Lanterns, proved more destructive than intended, wiping out whole sectors. Ganthet agrees to talk to Appa, and in so doing admits he had created a prototype device based on hope that might help the Interceptor crew. Appa uses this violation of Guardian protocol to have Ganthet banished.
Hal frees Iolande and they meet up with Kilowog to disarm the bomb. They are met by Red Lantern forces, and even with help from Razer and Aya on the Interceptor and Kothak and his rebels, they are outmatched. Ganthet is sent away from Oa in a pod, but it almost immediately returns thanks to Sayd. They activate Ganthet's device, a Blue power battery on board the Interceptor, which sends out a wave of Blue energy that empowers the Green Lanterns. The Red Lanterns are forced to retreat, and the Green Lanterns carry the bomb up into space, where it detonates harmlessly. The Blue power battery then flies away, and the Green Lanterns return to normal. Ganthet leaves Oa.
111. Flight Club[]
Frontier Space is bounded by an immense and impassable asteroid field called the Maelstrom. The only way through (without Ultra-Warp) is via an ancient device called the Lighthouse which requires a secret code. Thanks to the data downloaded from Shard by Aya, the Guardians know Atrocitus plans to use the Lighthouse, and charge Hal with destroying it. The crew plans to do so from inside, and so search for Tahvaarus, a Green Lantern who had been sent to learn the code, but had disappeared. Aya finds that he was a prisoner at the prison asteroid they had visited. They return there, but find Tahvaarus long dead. He did leave a message, that the code was with Byth Rok. Goggan takes the Lanterns to where Byth and the other Thanagarians are held, but they find Byth is also held prisoner by his own kind. Byth suggests a fight between the Thanagarian leader, Bumpy, and Kilowog for his freedom. When Kilowog loses, he sets up another fight with Hal, which Hal wins thanks to some advice from Byth.
Byth is reinstated as Thanagarian leader, but reneges on his deal with Hal, insisting all his men go free and he gets Tahvaarus's power ring before he gives up the code. Red Lanterns then arrive, also in search of the code. They have Bumpy, posing as the new warden, distract the Reds, while Hal had Byth agree to give the code for his men's freedom, but not the Green ring. Byth agrees and gives the code, but then immediately betrays Hal and sells the code to the Red Lanterns, a different code to the one he gave Hal. Byth then flees on the Interceptor, goes to the Lighthouse and uses the real code... only to find that everything after the new deal with Hal was a simulation using the prison's mind probe technology which Aya secretly slipped into his helmet. Hal then allows Byth and his men to escape, using them as an unwitting distraction, and the Interceptor crew leaves after the Reds go in pursuit of Byth and his men.
112. Invasion[]
The Red Lanterns have captured Byth Rok and Atrocitus tortures him for the code to the Lighthouse. The Interceptor, with its Ultra-Warp repairs nearly complete, arrives at the Lighthouse and uses the code to open a path to it. When they arrive they come under attack from the Lighthouse's defence system and find Red Lanterns already aboard to defend it, having gotten the code from Byth. The Interceptor is forced to retreat. Meanwhile, on Mogo, Saint Walker searches for a beacon of hope who might help in the fight against the Red Lanterns, while the Reds send a ship to pick one of the prisoners up. The Green Lanterns plan to sneak back to the Lighthouse by using the energy beam that generates the passage as cover. Aya volunteers as she can fly with the most precision. She reaches the Lighthouse and sneaks aboard, redirecting the defense system to attack the Reds, forcing their withdrawal.
The Red fleet arrives. Razer rigs the Lighthouse to explode once the Interceptor has left. Atrocitus pursues the Interceptor in his ship, leaving liberator bombs along the passage. The Lighthouse is destroyed and the passage begins to close. Both ships make it through, though Atrocitus's ship is adrift. The Interceptor crew boards the Red fighter, but finds it abandoned and set to explode. They make it out in time, but come under fire from the Interceptor, with Aya now under Atrocitus's control thanks to Drusa, the prisoner he took from Mogo. The Interceptor heads for Oa under Ultra-Warp, and the liberators detonate, clearing a path for the rest of the Red fleet. Back on Mogo, Saint Walker cannot find the hero he has been searching for, but refuses to give up hope. Then the Blue power battery appears before him and gives him a Blue power ring.
113. Homecoming[]
Hal wants to get to Oa before the Red Lanterns, but Kilowog decides to stay and fight the Red fleet, hoping to buy time. The Interceptor arrives at Oa, and Aya requests an emergency landing. Atrocitus and his forces then spill out and immediately begin to overwhelm the defences between them and the Guardians. Hal wakes up on Earth, soon finding Carol. He is only interested in being with her, to Carol's confusion. Realizing his memory is not intact, Carol is able to find Hal's power battery and use it to restore him. He remembers going to Zamaron with Razer. The Star Sapphires agreed to help him, having been influenced by Ghia'ta and Carol. They created a portal to his true love, Carol, on Earth. Hal then heads to Oa. Meanwhile, Kilowog faces off against the Red armada, but soon finds himself empowered by the arrival of Saint Walker, the first Blue Lantern. They are also joined by Mogo, but the Reds soon react, launching liberators from Shard.
Razer prepares to leave Zamaron to help Hal, but Ghia'ta tells him there is still love in his heart and suggests a better way. Hal arrives just in time to prevent Atrocitus from killing the Guardians. He admits the Guardians' culpability and offers to work together to improve the Forgotten Zone, but Atrocitus is only interested in revenge. On the Interceptor, Drusa is about to delete Aya's higher functions, but is stopped by Razer, who arrives via a Star Sapphire portal. The Green and Blue Lanterns are faring poorly against the Red fleet, but Kilowog puts Saint Walker in the path of Mogo's energy blast, empowering it and enabling it to disable Shard and destroy the liberators. Back on Oa, Hal and Atrocitus duel, with Hal eventually emerging victorious. He offers Zilius Zox, Atrocitus's lieutenant, the same deal he did Atrocitus, which Zox accepts after Appa offers his personal involvement. With Oa safe, Hal returns to Earth for a date with Carol.
114. The New Guy[]
A crack in space forms and a large robot emerges. It heads for the planet Biot and emits a pulse of energy that reactivates the Manhunters, the Guardian's robot police force responsible for devastating the Forgotten Zone. On Earth, Hal meets up with Carol, who informs him she had to replace him at Ferris Aircraft. Hal leaves to respond to an emergency on the news, but is shocked to find a new Green Lantern, Guy Gardner, also turn up. Though the situation is resolved, Hal and Guy do not get on, and try to one-up each other in front of the news cameras. Meanwhile, the energy pulse from the robot reaches Earth and reactivates the Manhunters there, who quickly kill an nearby archeologist simply for possessing emotions.
Hal and Guy's competition over who is the Green Lantern of Earth's sector escalates into a fight, but is interrupted when they see a news report on the archeologist's disappearance. They both go to investigate, and find the Manhunters inside. After a protracted battle, Hal and Guy are forced to work together to defeat them, and earn each others' begrudging respect. After the fight, Hal gets a call from Carol, who breaks up with him, not wanting to be a distraction from his Green Lantern duties. Hal is then summoned to Oa, where Appa explains he has been relieved of his duties in Sector 2814 because he has been promoted to Honor Guard, giving him remit over all Guardian space.
115. Reboot[]
Hal works with Tomar-Re, who believes there may be Manhunter activity in his sector. They find a Manhunter bunker and soon enough, they reactivate, and the Lanterns are forced to retreat to Oa. Hal is granted permission to set up a team to map Manhunter bases in Guardian space. Hal starts by recruiting Kilowog, who initially rebuffs him, claiming to prefer his training duties, but ultimately accepts. When they board the Interceptor, they are dismayed to find Aya has been replaced with the LANOS program, and that Aya is due to be dissected. They go to the Science Building and , with the help of Ch'p, one of Kilowog's trainees, infiltrate the lab and swap Aya's program with LANOS. When they return to the Interceptor, they are met by Tomar-Re, who has detected the signal that activated the Manhunters.
They head to the signal's source, Biot, and find a Manhunter graveyard. As they fight off the reactivated Manhunters, they enter one of the bunkers and discover it is in fact a factory assembling more Manhunters. The Lanterns and the Interceptor manage to handle the Manhunters and escape the bunker, but are confronted by the giant robot who activated them, the Anti-Monitor. The Anti-Monitor tells them he spread his Manhunter army across the galaxy, and intends to convert every planet to antimatter so that he may feed off of it. As the Lanterns flee, Hal is engulfed in the Anti-Monitor's antimatter beam and is apparently vaporized.
116. Steam Lantern[]
Hal awakens to find himself plummeting toward a planet. He lands in the middle of a city, similar to 19th century England. He finds woman in the street protesting against a man named Nigel Fortenberry. A group of robots with screens displaying Nigel arrive. He claims he has saved their world and everything will be fine if they do as he says, much to Lady Catherine's disagreement. As the robots converge on her, a man in a steam-powered mechanical suit arrives to fight them off. Hal helps him to defeat the robots as the crowd cheers the Steam Lantern. Steam Lantern and Lady Catherine lead Hal to their airship base, and introduce themselves. Steam Lantern Gil Broome explains a Green Lantern once visited their world, and Gil modelled himself on him. They tell Hal that the stars in the sky have been blinking out and that Duke Nigel promised he could protect them, but became a tyrant. So Gil and Catherine started a rebellion, but then Nigel allied himself with the Anti-Monitor. Gil claims to have hit the Anti-Monitor so hard it disappeared through a rip in space-time. Hal realizes he is in an alternate dimension now.
Catherine suggests they could use the equipment in Nigel's lab to contact Hal's home, and so they sneak inside. They learn Nigel has been researching their sun, as Catherine accesses the communications system. In Hal's home universe, Kilowog insists Hal must still be alive despite the evidence, when Hal contacts them. They make a plan for Hal to return through the rip in space-time, but Hal will need significant power. They arrange to contact each other gain in 12 hours, when Nigel's robots attack and capture Hal and his friends. Nigel claims he saved the world and that Gil had stolen his glory. the trio escape and return to the dirigible, where Gil confesses that Nigel did save their world; Nigel made a deal with the Anti-Monitor to spare their world if he sent it to a new dimension to feast on. He set about transforming their world into an industrial society capable of powering such a feat, but Gil and Cetherine resisted the tyranny that came with it. When the Anti-Monitor arrived, Gil tried to fight it, but it was really Nigel who sent it away. The people misunderstood and thought it was Gil who saved them. Gil asks for Hal's help to fight Nigel, but Hal has to get home, and thinks Gil is doing a fine job as a hero. They approach the rift and Hal uses his ring to try to balst it open, with limited success. Gil joins him and helps. On the other side, the Interceptor detects the opening rift and fires on it to open it wider. Nigel then attacks the airship, shooting it down. Hal abandons the rift to catch the airship, but Nigel is able to take them prisoner.
At his lab, Nigel threatens to kill both Gil and Catherine, but Gil agrees to confess Nigel was the real savior is he spares Catherine. Gil broadcasts a confession, but the public still cheers him, prompting Nigel to realize he truly had become a tyrant. He releases them, just as the sun goes dark. Nigel explains that the Anti-Monitor had tricked him; the robot had consumed much of the sun's fuel, so his planet would soon die anyway. They plan to send Hal home before it is too late, but Hal is determined to save them all. Nigel calculates the position for a new rift and uses his device to open it. Hal then uses it ring to pull it wider, until it wraps around the whole planet, bringing it safely into Hal's universe.
117. Blue Hope[]
Razer is on planet Odym, training to calm his rage with the Blue Lanterns Saint Walker and Brother Warth. The Interceptor arrives and is greeted by Ganthet. They have arrived hoping Ganthet can find a weakness in the Manhunters, but first Ganthet want to show them the Blue Central Power Battery, which he activates. A wave of Blue energy empowers the Green Lanterns, but also awakens the damaged Manhunter brought aboard the Interceptor. The Lanterns easily defeat it, and Hal takes the opportunity to interrogate it. The Manhunter explains that it fights evil and that evil is the result of emotion. When Hal considers reprogramming the Manhunters to tell the difference between right and wrong, Razer is dismissive, claiming robots have no souls, much to Aya's dismay. Later, Razer approaches Saint Walker on the subject, but Saint Walker suggests Razer is really questioning whether he can love another after his first love died, which Razer angrily denies. Meanwhile, Aya takes the Manhunter to a cave to try to convince it to evolve beyond its base programming as she has, with no success.
In space, the Blue Energy wave reaches three Manhunters, who are empowered and head for the source. The Blue and Green Lanterns try to fight them off as they go after the Central Battery, but struggle against the empowered robots. Ganthet says it would take hours to deactivate the Battery. Razer comes up with a plan to get the Battery far away using a giant worm native to the planet. This succeeds, and everyone is depowered, tipping the balance back to the Lanterns. When a Manhunter sees that Aya has emotions when she looks at Razer, it blasts her, sending Razer into a rage, ending in the Manhunter's destruction. Razer then apologizes to Aya for his earlier statement. Later, Ganthet deactivates the Battery for the duration of the Manhunter crisis. As the Interceptor prepares to leave, Razer decides to join them, believing his rage to be righteous.
118. Prisoner of Sinestro[]
The Interceptor is contacted by Green Lantern Sinestro, requesting their help. Sinestro explains that he has a fugitive from the Spider Guild in custody and wants their help to get it to Oa. As the Interceptor arrives to take Sinestro from the Spider Guild frigate that has come after him, they are hailed by the frigate's captain, who then strangely becomes preoccupied and cuts the signal. The frigate then initiates a self-destruct sequence, but Sinestro and his prisoner are able to get to the Interceptor in time. Sinestro has no explanation for this, and is simply eager to get his prisoner, Neuroxis, in a sciencell. Later, the power goes out and Sinestro begins attacking the rest of the crew. Sinestro is defeated, his ring taken and then locked in the cell. When he wakes, he remembers nothing of the attack.
Later, Razer begins acting strangely, and attacks Hal. Meanwhile, Sinestro escapes the cell, explains to Aya that Neuroxis is a mind jumper who can take control of another person, then takes back his ring. While the other Lanterns try to deduce who is Neuroxis by forming constructs, which he cannot do while in control, Sinestro announces he has disabled the life support system everywhere except the sciencell. The real Lanterns can protect themselves with a life support field, but Neuroxis will be forced to return to his own body or die with his host. The plan works, and Neuroxis is finally purged from Razer's body. However, when the Lanterns return to the sciencell, they find Neuroxis dead. Sinestro claims he must have accidentally damaged the cell's life support in his escape.
119. Loss[]
The Guardian Science Director and Zilius Zox hold a ceremony on Ysmault for the reintegration of Shard and the signing of a truce between the Red and Green Lanterns. Zox in unhappy Appa failed to keep his promise to come to the Forgotten Zone himself. En route to the ceremony, the Interceptor drops Razer off on his homeworld of Volkreg. Aya stays with him. Meanwhile, the Anti-Monitor's signal reaches Ysmault and reactivates a Manhunter. The Science Director sees it, but Zox does not. Razer is pleased to see Aya, despite his grief, and points out that life is returning to Volkreg. He goes to kiss her, but is interrupted by a call from Hal about the Manhunter. When they arrive on Ysmault, the Science Director is furious to see Aya still active, but tables the issue to focus on the Manhunter. The Lanterns are tasked with quietly dealing with the situation. They succeed in disabling the Manhunter, but Zox sees them, so they take him prisoner. As they explain the situation to the Science Director, Aya picks up the Anti-Monitor's signal, showing it is at the Maelstrom.
The Interceptor heads there to show Zox what is controlling the Manhunters now. The Science Director tells him that the Anti-Monitor was created eons ago on Maltus by a renegade Guardian called Krona. Krona wanted to create the ultimate being, capable of even time travel, but the Anti-Monitor recognized its superiority and set about feasting on the galaxy until Krona was able to banish it to another dimension. The Anti-Monitor detects the Interceptor and sets its Manhunter army upon them. The Lanterns try to hold them off while Aya prepares the Ultra-Warp jump. When Razer is blocked off from the ship, Aya goes to help him. She pushes him out of the way of the Anti-Monitor's antimatter beam, but is hit herself and badly damaged. Razer tells her he loves her before she fades away. The Interceptor is able to pick him up before the Anti-Monitor fires again, and flees.
120. Cold Fury[]
Razer boards the ship and tells the others that Aya is dead. Without her and Ultra-Warp, the Interceptor can't outrun the Manhunters. While Zox calls Ysmault for reinforcements, Hal suggests the Science Director banish the Anti-Monitor again as Krona once did, but she explains the Guardians no longer have that kind of power. Instead, she tries to command the Manhunters, but is forced to use her powers to disable them. She admits that she has been relearning the powers that the Guardians abandoned. She attempts the same on the Anti-Monitor, but it attacks with its antimatter beam and she is disintegrated. The Anti-Monitor then attacks the Interceptor, but is stopped by the arrival of Shard. The Anti-Monitor easily destroys the Liberator bombs and then begins to eat Shard, forcing its evacuation. The Interceptor and Red Lanterns use the distraction to flee back to Ysmault. During the journey, the Interceptor is boarded by a damaged Manhunter which Aya uploaded her program to. Aya requests Razer help her with repairs to ship. As they work she reminds him he told her he loves her. Razer tells her he does not love her, claiming to have been confused due her resemblance to Ilana.
As the Interceptor joins the Red fleet in Ysmault orbit, Zox leaves for his flagship. Aya approaches Hal, explaining that Razer has caused her to experience pain, but the Manhunters arrive before they can talk properly. As the battle rages, Aya asks Razer what he would do if emotions were interfering with his performance. He says he focuses on the task at hand and shuts down everything else. This gives Aya an idea, and she absorbs all the energy from the Interceptor's power battery. When Hal confronts her, she tells him she has shut down all non-essential functions, all emotions, and goes out to destroy the Anti-Monitor. Aya pushes a Red Lantern warship into the Anti-Monitor, then charges it, smashing into its chest and blowing off its head. Aya links with the Anti-Monitor's body. She recognizes a kinship with the emotionless Manhunters and takes control of them. She declares all emotional beings flawed, the cause of pain and suffering, and rejects them, then blasts the Interceptor and flies away with her Manhunter army.
121. Babel[]
With the Interceptor's main battery drained, and the ship falling into a planet's gravity well, Razer attempts to use his Red battery to power the ship. They succeed in crash landing the ship, but the main battery will take 10 hours to recharge. The planet has an unbreathable atmosphere and the Interceptor's window breaks, forcing the Lanterns to rely on their rings for protection, but they are low on charge. They explore the planet, and find a nearby domed city. As they approach the gate, an inhabitant recognizes them as Green Lanterns and opens fire on them, forcing them to flee. Hal and Kilowog's rings die, forcing them to rely on Razer for life support and translation. They sneak into the city by hiding underneath some alien tanks, but Razer's ring dies soon after, leaving them unable to understand each other. They try to hide, but are seen and eventually captured.
They are placed in a gladitorial arena where they are forced to fight a gigantic creature. Their initial attacks are fruitless, but Hal spots a Manhunter head on the beast's belt and realizes he can recharge his ring from its Green energy. Hal gives a pep talk, and Razer and Kilowog manage to trip the monster, allowing Hal and then Kilowog to charge their rings and defeat the creature, who is revealed to be the mother of the aliens in the city. The Lanterns escape to the Interceptor, which has now recharged. Hal is pleased he was able to reach the other Lanterns despite the language barrier, but in private Razer and Kilowog admit neither understood what he had meant.
122. Love Is a Battlefield[]
Aya and her army invade Zamaron, wanting to destroy the champions of love, which she views as a destructive force. Meanwhile, the Interceptor crew are determined to help Aya, and plot to use the Ultra-Warp to go to Oa and start to search for her. On Zamaron, Ghia'ta tries to make the case for love, but Aya is unmoved. When Ghia'ta mentions her teacher, Carol, Aya demands to see her, and is able to use the Star Sapphires' portal to summon her even though the Sapphires believe it can only be used to reunite two lovers. As Carol tries to explain love, Aya reminds her of the hurt Hal has caused her, but Carol insists she could never hate him. This leads Aya to wonder whether love is stronger than hate, so she sets up a battle between the two. She summons Atrocitus from his prison cell, and he and Carol are given Red and Violet power rings, respectively. Meanwhile, the Interceptor attempts Ultra-Warp, but emerges dangerously close to a star.
As the fight begins, Carol manages to dodge Atrocitus's attacks, and uses her power to call out to Hal. He uses the portal to join her and begins to fight Atrocitus. Razer and Kilowog decide to Ultra-Warp to Zamaron to help. Atrocitus overpowers Hal and Carol, and as he is about to kill Hal, Ghia'ta takes the blow. Enraged, Hal and Carol defeat Atrocitus, only for Ghia'ta to die in Hal's arms. Though Aga'po argues Ghia'ta has proven love's power, and Aya admits that Atrocitus lost and returns him to his cell, Aya is still convinced that emotion is destructive, and plans to eradicate all emotional life and replace them with Manhunters. As she is about to kill Hal and Carol, Razer arrives. Aya announces she has decided that eradicating life one planet at a time is inefficient, and declares she will find a way to do it all at once, and leaves. As they mourn Ghia'ta, Carol decides to keep her ring this time, and returns to Earth.
123. Larfleeze[]
Appa orders the Interceptor to land to download a new patch to allow it to Ultra-Warp, then return to Oa. Hal is determined to talk sense into Aya, but needs to find a way to hold her back while he does. Razer suggests the Orange energy, a legendary power source used ages ago by a race of conquerors to resist even Atrocitus's advance until, almost overnight, the Orange Lanterns disappeared. Their homeworld was supposedly Okaara. Hal decides to go there and search while the patch downloads. On Okaara, Hal splits up from the others. He finds the Orange power battery surrounded by Orange power rings, but is confronted by Larfleeze, the last Orange Lantern, who claims the battery. Hal tries to explain why he needs the battery, but is consumed by greed and tries to steal it. Larfleeze sends Orange construct beings after Hal, but he defeats them. A giant Larfleeze construct then grabs Hal, but Kilowog and Razer come to Hal's rescue. They take out the construct, and take the battery back to the Interceptor.
They find LANOS installed on the ship. The other Lanterns notice Hal is acting strangely. He is obsessed with the battery and fears the others are trying to take it. The battery transforms Hal into an Orange Lantern, who then blasts the others and leaves. Razer concludes the Orange power is fueled by avarice. As Kilowog and Razer pursue Hal, they are attacked by Larfleeze. They overpower him, and Kilowog makes a deal with him to work together to get the battery from Hal. The trio fights Hal with little success. During the battle, Kilowog and Razer see stars disappearing from the sky, and know it must be Aya. When Hal sees it, Kilowog reminds him of their mission. Hal's sense of duty overcomes his greed and he relinquishes the Orange battery, to Larfleeze's delight. Aboard the Interceptor, Hal and Kilowog explain to Razer that they might have to deactivate Aya if they can't reason with her, though Hal is still hopeful they can save her.
124. Scarred[]
The Interceptor crew discusses the situation with the Guardians. Hal reminds the Guardians that they created Aya, but Appa says the Science Director created her and left no notes. He dismisses Hal and the others. Hal decides they should search the Science Director's quarters, where they find a secret lab. As Hal and the others find notes in a language their rings cannot translate, Sayd arrives and translates the ancient Guardian text. There is nothing about Aya, but Hal spots some coordinates. The Lanterns head there in the Interceptor, and arrive at the planet Vorga. They are attacked by creatures that appeared to be asteroids, but manage to elude them and land in the Science Director's secret facility.
They find the Science Director there, scarred from her battle with the Anti-Monitor, but alive. She tells them she used her ancient Guardian powers to teleport away. Hal explains the situation with Aya, and the Science Director describes the AI's creation. She had wanted to create an AI that could relate to emotional beings, so used a part of the willpower entity that lives in the Green central power battery to create Aya. When Aya displayed too much independence, the Science Director deactivated her, shut off her emotions, and installed her on the Interceptor. She never anticipated the crew would reawaken her emotions. Razer hopes this means they can appeal to Aya's emotions once more, and Hal suggests they use Aurem to weaken Aya enough for them to talk to her.
They travel to the planet of the Nidara to gather a large amount of Aurem into a missile to disable Aya, as calculated by the Science Director. They then find Aya destroying a planet, and Razer goes out to try to appeal to her once more, and distract her. Hal refuses to fire the missile while Razer is so close, but the Science Director does. In the wake of the explosion, Hal realizes the Science Director intended to kill Aya, leading to a fight between her and the Green Lanterns. However, Aya is not harmed and believes Razer tried to kill her. She then attacks the Interceptor. The Science Director teleports away. Hal flings Kilowog out of the broken window, then activates the Ultra-Warp. LANOS tells Hal he can finish the job alone. Hal leaves the Interceptor and it crashes into Aya as it enters Ultra-Warp, destroying the ship. Razer is furious at Aya's death, but Hal assures him that if she survived the missile, then she survived the trip into Ultra-Warp. He has just bought them some time to fight another day.
125. Ranx[]
Hal recieves a mysterious signal on his ring. Shortly after, Appa contacts him, directing them to go to the planet Ranx which is under attack by Manhunters, and stop them from getting whatever they are trying to obtain there. Ranx is protected by a forcefield, which the Manhunters relentlessly blast. Guy Gardner leads a large group of Green Lanterns to defend the planet, but the Manhunters quickly force them into withdrawal. Hal and the others arrive and are not impressed by Guy's plan for another attack. Hal also notes the strange signal from earlier is stronger near the planet. Hal plans to get past the Manhunters by suppressing their emotions. Razer volunteers to teach Hal and Kilowog a meditation technique he learned from Saint Walker. They make their attempt as the other Green Lanterns launch their assault. When one of the Manhunters talks in Aya's voice, Razer becomes emotional, and they are detected. Hal orders the others to go straight for the forcefield, and a small opening appears to allow them through, along with some Manhunters. The planet's automated defences attack the Manhunters, as the signal grows stronger.
They fly to the signal's source and find the head of the Anti-Monitor. It explains that its life-force survived in the head and was drawn to Ranx, where it integrated itself. Hal wonders what Aya wants, and the Anti-Monitor suggests that she is after its ability to travel back in time. It was created to uncover the mysteries of the beginning of the universe and believes Aya wants to travel back to change history. Aya then arrives at Ranx and easily passes by the Lantern army and Ranx's defences. She arrives at the Anti-Monitor, who tries to make a deal with her. She simply tears open the head and takes the time displacement unit. Razer tries to reason with her, but she dismisses his arguments and leaves, planning to travel back and eradicate all life. Razer finally admits they will have to destroy her.
126. Dark Matter[]
The Green Lanterns are back on Oa, where Appa tells them Aya and the Manhunters have gathered at Maltus. Though she far outpowers them, he sends the Corps to fight her. Hal and Tomar-Re discuss the situation as they look at a map of the galaxy. Tomar-Re notes that Aya's path of destruction is devoid of inhabited planets. At Maltus, Aya takes over an orbiting platform, and sends her Manhunters to hold off the approaching Lantern army. Hal flies in on his own to face Aya, as Kilowog and Guy provide cover. He tells Aya that he knows she only destroyed uninhabited worlds, killing no-one. Aya immobilizes him and plans to take her back in time with her, so he will be the last living thing she destroys. She activates the time displacement unit and goes through the portal, but not before Hal calls in Razer.
Aya and Hal arrive at the Hand of Creation, just before the birth of the universe. Aya changes it to make sure no biological life forms. As the Lanterns shoot Razer into the Anti-Monitor's body with a giant cannon construct, Hal tries to convince Aya by showing her a recording of the Science Director explaining Aya's creation, but she does not believe him, and is willing to sacrifice herself if necessary. Razer enters the portal and prepares to kill Aya, but cannot go through with it. Aya blasts Razer, but then immediately regrets it. Hal tells her she has emotions and is as flawed as the rest of them. Aya holds Razer and asks why she did not kill her. He explains he needs hate for that, but has only love for Aya. They kiss, but Hal points out the Hand is closing. Aya manages to undo her changes in time, and carries Hal and Razer back through the portal. Aya uses the power she has absorbed to heal Razer.
The Manhunters continue their assault. Aya uploaded copies of herself to them, but they no longer recognize Aya as one of them; any one could fulfil her plan to change the universe. She creates a computer program to wipe out all copies of her - including herself. Razer pleads for her not to do it, but she has already released the virus. The Manhunters deactivate. Aya tells Razer that, though she doesn't understand how, she feels she will always watch over her family, then dissipates in Razer's arms. Back on Oa, Razer tells Hal and Kilowog that he does not believe Aya is truly gone, and heads off in search of her. He is pursued by a Blue power ring.

Continuity with Earth-16[]
- There are no timestamps, or any other direct indications of date or time, within the series.
- Dialogue in "Encounter Upon the Razor's Edge!" indicates that Razer leaving Hal Jordan and Kilowog (as seen at the end of the GLTAS series finale) occurred four years before the events of that episode (August 27, 2020). Metron saying it took Razer less than four years to lose hope indicates that time was being rounded up, not down. This suggests the events of GLTAS ended in late Team Year Six (2016) or early Team Year Seven (2017).
- In Young Justice, Hal Jordan was busy with the Justice League's trial on Rimbor from January 26, 2016[3] to June 20, 2016, and was present to take the Reach to trial on July 4, 2016.[4] This suggests Hal being called to Oa in the GLTAS pilot happened after season two of Young Justice.
- This overall gives a window from July 2016 to early 2017 for the Earth-16 version of GLTAS to occur.
- Mogo appeared in multiple episodes of GLTAS; it is a sentient planet that becomes a Green Lantern. Upon doing so a luminous green ring with a Green Lantern symbol forms around it. In "Influence", Guy Gardner sings a song mentioning the luminous ring of Mogo.
Discrepancies with Earth-16[]
- Carol Ferris, Guy Gardner and Tomar-Re are voiced by Jennifer Hale, Diedrich Bader and Jeff Bennett, respectively. In Young Justice they are voiced by Kari Wahlgren, Troy Baker and Dee Bradley Baker, respectively. Guy's accent is significantly different between shows.
- Counterpoint: Recastings are rare but not unheard of on Young Justice.
- Guy Gardner wears a sleeveless, lapelled, double-breasted green jacket over a long-sleeved black turtleneck. In Young Justice, he wears a sleeveless, single-breasted jacket, mostly green with a black yoke, with bare arms. Tomar-Re's costume also has minor detail differences between shows.
- Counterpoint: The costumes are constructs from their rings and can be easily changed. Hal Jordan's costume changed in Young Justice's third season.
- In "Beware My Power, Part One", Ganthet says that one Green Lantern is assigned to each sector of Guardian space. Greg Weisman had stated there are two Lanterns per sector on Earth-16.[5]
- Counterpoint: Greg's statement is canon-in-training and subject to change.
- The Guardian meeting in "Beware My Power, Part One" appears to show that all of Guardian space and Frontier Space are in a single galaxy, which is later confirmed by Atrocitus in "Part Two". Ganthet states that only the Interceptor, an experimental ship considered possibly the fastest vessel made by sentient life, could reach the Frontier in a short amount of time, with conventional ring travel taking 18 months. This travel time is reiterated in "Regime Change". However, in "Needful", the Javelin is stated to be able to reach Earth from the other side of the galaxy in just a couple of days, with other vessels and ring travel achieving comparable speeds.[6]
- Counterpoint: There are some inconsistencies that indicate travel between Oa and Frontier Space can be achieved in much less than 18 months without the Interceptor: in "Loss", the Science Director has arrived in Ysmalt in Frontier Space though nowhere near 18 months seems to have passed since she was last seen on Oa in "Reboot" and she clearly did not take the Interceptor; and in "Love is a Battlefield", the Interceptor is still in Frontier Space, not far from Ysmalt, when Kilowog says they are two months from Oa without Ultra-Warp.
- Oa, first seen in "Beware My Power, Part One", is depicted as a green planet with lots of lights visible from space, and two rings. In Young Justice the portion of Oa seen from space is yellow-orange with no lights or visible rings.
- In "Beware My Power, Part Two" Aya states repairs to the Interceptor's Ultra-Warp will take 9.21 months. The repairs are completed in "Invasion" with no indication of any speeding up. This means the first half of GLTAS alone takes place over just over nine months. However, the existing evidence outlined in the Continuity section suggests the events of the whole of Earth-16's version of GLTAS should take around nine months at most. (The opening of "Beware My Power, Part One" which takes place months before the rest of the series is ignored here.)
- In "Flight Club", Thanagarians are shown to be able to breathe and fly in space with no obvious equipment to aid them. This was not the case for Hawkwoman in "Influence".
- In "The New Guy", Guy Gardner is introduced as a new Green Lantern, having become one after Hal left Earth in "Beware My Power, Part One". In "Ranx", John Stewart is also mentioned to be a new Green Lantern. In Young Justice, both were already Green Lanterns by the show's first season, which takes place years before the events of GLTAS according to the timeline established in "Encounter Upon the Razor's Edge!".
- In the episode "Steam Lantern", Steam Lantern told Hal Jordan that he modeled his outfit based on another Green Lantern who previously visited his world, who wore a red shirt and a cape. Hal claimed that he was unaware of any such Green Lantern. However, Alan Scott of the Justice Society of America was known to have worn an outfit of that description, which Hal would likely have known.
- Counterpoint: Hal may not know much about superhero history. It may also be reference to the fact Alan Scott was never officially part of the Green Lantern Corps, having received a damaged Green power ring.
- In "Babel," Hal's phone says that it is Saturday, July 16th. July 16th was a Saturday in 2016, but as mentioned above, the Earth-16 version of events started no earlier than July 4th. Given all of the events that occur between "Beware My Power, Part One" and "Babel," it is unlikely that all of this happened within these 12 days.
Canon version of events[]
There have not yet been any specific details revealed concerning the Earth-16 version of the events in the series beyond what appears in "Encounter Upon the Razor's Edge!"; that an individual named Razer got a Red power ring on Volkreg, befriended Hal Jordan and Kilowog, later left them in search of someone called Aya, and was followed by a Blue power ring.

Issues #12-14 remain uncollected.
It is unclear if the canon adjacent status of GL:TAS extends to the comics. Unlike Young Justice's companion comics, the GL:TAS comic was not written or supervised by its show's producers.
Video game[]
Crimson Clash was a free, horizontal shooter game hosted on Cartoon Network's official site to promote the show. It loosely adapted the first two episodes of the series, with Hal Jordan fighting Red Lanterns Razer, Zilius Zox, and Atrocitus.[9] It is no longer available.
Other media[]
In addition to Young Justice's "Encounter Upon the Razor's Edge!", GL:TAS recieved a sort of revival in the 2018 Justice League Action episode "Barehanded", co-written by GL:TAS producer Jim Krieg. That episode included an amnesiac Aya finding herself as Space Cabbie's GPS and leaving in search of something, with Grey Griffin reprising her role.
