Early life[]

Gregor is the eldest son of King Viktor and Queen Ilona, 16 minutes older than his twin brother Brion.[2] As a child, he often played as superheroes with his brother and sister.[3]

After hearing commotion outside the Royal Chambers, Gregor and Brion ran to find his parents murdered. With his father dead, Gregor was the new king, but as he was a minor, his uncle Baron DeLamb would act as regent until he became 18.

Neither Gregor nor his brother liked or trusted their uncle, whose first actions as the regent were imposing martial law and reversing some of King Viktor's decrees. Brion voiced his distrust to his brother and suggested delaying the coronation, but Gregor felt that Markovia needed a king.[2]

Gregor held a pre-coronation reception in the garden of the Royal Palace. Before addressing the crowd, Brion once again voiced his distrust of DeLamb, but Gregor assured him he would only be regent for a year.[1]

The reception was interrupted by the arrival of armed guards on Baron DeLamb's orders. DeLamb then made a statement claiming Brion was in league with meta-traffickers and had his parents killed. Gregor disbelieved him, but DeLamb presented a video of Brion undergoing meta-activation as proof. Brion arrived soon after, meta-powers on full display, and fought DeLamb while claiming DeLamb was the threat and that he had taken meta-powers to fight him. Gregor deduced from the battle that DeLamb had had his powers longer as he had more control, and ordered the Baron's arrest pending an investigation. DeLamb tried to attack Gregor but was subdued by Superboy. Then, under advice from Zviad Baazovi, Gregor banished Brion for his involvement with the meta-traffickers, and asked Superboy to take care of him.[4]

On August 1, Gregor was officially coronated as King of Markovia.[5]

Gregor made a secret trip to see Brion and Tara. He was overjoyed by an TV interview Brion gave about his work with the Outsiders saying it was just the publicity he needed to help bring them home, though it was still not the right time to announce that Tara had been found.

Later, the trio were horrified to see news of DeLamb staging a coup in Markovia. Gregor wanted to return immediately, but insisted it was too dangerous. Brion realized the Outsiders were best placed to respond.[8]
