This article is about the second Green Lantern. For the others, see Green Lantern.

Hal Jordan is a Green Lantern and a founding member of the Justice League.[3] He is based in Coast City.[4]

Personality[]

As a Green Lantern, Hal Jordan has a love of justice and the ability to overcome fear with willpower.[5]

Physical appearance[]

Hal Jordan is a middle-aged Caucasian male with an athletic build. As a Green Lantern, his uniform consists of the green and black colorway associated with the Corp, along with the Green Lantern insignia on his chest. He also wears a green domino mask to hide his identity. Over the years, the uniform has more or less remained the same; the torso, shoulders, and boots are green, while the legs, arms, and armpits are black. The only alteration to the get-up has been replacing the white gloves with green gauntlets on his forearms.[6]

His hair is brown, which he keeps in a short hairstyle, and with age came the gray temples, along with a few wrinkles in the face.[7]

History[]

Early life[]

Hal Jordan became Green Lantern in 2000.[8]

Before the foundation of the Justice League, Green Lantern had teamed up with Flash once. He is still good friends with him.[9]

In February[10] 2003,[11] Green Lantern worked together with six other heroes[12] to defeat an Appellaxian invasion, and eventually drove them off the planet.[13] The seven assembled heroes then formed the Justice League,[10] with them as the founding members.[14]

In 2006,[15] the Joker tricked Lucas Carr into leading him to the Justice League's secret headquarters. After invading the cave and subduing Carr, Joker set a trap for the League: a large surprise giftbox. When Flash went to open it, it burst open with monkey clowns. Hal arrived with other Leaguers mid-battle. The exact resolution of the encounter is unknown, but the Leaguers all survived.[16]

At some point he met Razer and struck up a friendship with him.[5]

When Black Canary, Red Tornado, and Red Arrow returned to the Watchtower, Klarion realized they were no longer under the Light's control, so Savage had Hal trap them with his power ring. Savage revealed the motives for his plan to the three heroes as Starro-tech was placed on them once more. Eventually, Klarion realized the three heroes still weren't "online", as the cure-tech canceled out the Starro-tech. They broke out of Hal's constructs and gave him cure-tech. He was cured, but unconscious.[19]

During a mission briefing, John Stewart mentioned that Hal and Guy Gardner were on the Green Lantern home world of Oa.[20]

Before the Justice League departed for trial on Rimbor, John Stewart said that Hal and Guy went ahead to the planet to prepare it for the League's arrival, and to impress upon its leaders that the Guardians of the Universe expected a fair trial.[13]

After gaining their freedom on Rimbor, the League finally arrived at Mount Justice, Hal Jordan among them. The mountain was in ruins, and Superman wondered whether they were already too late in dealing with the invasion that embroiled the Earth before and during their absence. Members of the Team descended from the heavens, acting as a welcoming committee. Batman asked Aqualad, who in their last meeting was still a traitor, what happened there. Aqualad reassured them that the crisis has passed, but not without loss.[21]

In late June,[22] Hal attended Wally West's funeral.[23]

Jordan joined the League in its campaign to curb the expanse of Meta-human trafficking throughout the galaxy. Once they located Granny Goodness's Meta-human prison, the Orphanage, the League commenced an ambush of the space station with its heavy hitters. Jordan and the other Lanterns combined the powers of their rings to entrap the prison within a construct, providing enough time for several Leaguers to raid the site and liberate any Meta-human captives. The Apokoliptians, however, had anticipated the attack. Once all the heroes were aboard, Granny sprang her trap by emitting the Anti-Life Equation from her doomsday contraption, making slaves of the entire Justice League.[24]

Equipment[]

Like all Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan derives his power from his Green power ring.

  • Green power ring: The power ring is capable of creating whatever the user thinks through pure will. All Green Lanterns cover themselves in a green aura which gives them the ability of flight and acts as a personal shield.

Appearances[]

Background information[]

  • Hal Jordan is the Silver Age version of Green Lantern, a test pilot working for Ferris Aircraft. He's been a member of the Corps and the Justice League of America; however, in the 90s, he was a villain, first as Parallax and later as the host body of the Spectre, where he walked a fine line between good and bad.
  • This is Hal Jordan's 9th animated appearance. He has appeared in Superman/Aquaman Hour of Adventure, Super Friends, Justice League Unlimited, The Batman, the Duck Dodgers episode "The Green Loontern", Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Justice League: The New Frontier, and Green Lantern: First Flight.
  • He has since appeared in Green Lantern: The Animated Series as the show's main protagonist.
  • Art director Phil Bourassa had the idea to make Hal's hair begin to gray in season three, with approval from the showrunners.[27]
