J'ann J'onzz M'orzz is Miss Martian's mother and Martian Manhunter's younger sister.

Personality[]

J'ann is an open-minded and accepting soul, as she not only fell in love with an A'ashenn but chose to marry him in spite of most of her family disowning her. She is a loving mother to her many children, and happily accepted her daughter M'gann's relationship with an alien and adoption of a human brother. She is deeply hurt by her son M'comm's turn toward violence, and has some history of glossing over her G'arrunn children lack of acceptance of their A'ashenn siblings.[4][5]

Physical appearance[]

History[]

Early life[]

J'ann M'orzz came from a G'arrunn family. She fell in love with and married an A'ashenn, M'aatt M'orzz, causing her whole family to disown her. The only one to not cut ties with her was her older brother J'onn J'onzz who came to learn about tolerance and acceptance during his time on Earth.[5] She and her husband came to have 17 sons and 12 daughters, with only two, a son and a daughter, being A'ashenn.[4][6]

2016[]

In July, J'ann and M'aatt met Conner Kent and Garfield Logan for the first time when they came to Mars alongside M'gann for a mission.[7]

2020[]

J'ann and M'aatt were greatly pleased at the news M'gaan and Superboy were to be married and were coming to Mars for a traditional ceremony, and set about finding a Sorcerer Priest or Priestess who was willing to perform the mixed-species ceremony. They also hoped to downplay recent spikes in caste-based tension and anti-Earth sentiment following King S'turnn J'axx's murder so as not to worry the happy couple.[4]

J'ann and M'aatt welcomed M'gann, Conner and Gar to their home. Despite their efforts, the visitors had noted the hostility from the public during their journey, and soon after their arrival the house was vandalized by a racist mob. After fending off the group, M'gann demanded an explanation from their parents and they described the rise in hostility following King S'turnn's unsolved murder.

Later, J'ann and her husband attended the Zeta-Tube test at the Science Center. J'ann was horrified when her son, Ma'alefa'ak, was caught sneaking into the facility, and worried about her brother being the test subject. To her horror, the Zeta-Tube blew up just after J'onn entered.[4]

With J'onn missing, Ma'alefa'ak was blamed for the explosion and arrested. J'ann, M'aatt and M'gann followed to the M'hontrr HQ. There they tried to reason with M'comm, but J'ann found that his extreme anti-G'arrunn views extended even to her. M'gann then asked to speak with her brother alone.[6]

On the Sacred Boat, J'ann and M'aatt introduced M'gann and Conner to S'yraa S'mitt, the Sorcerer Priestess who would be conducting their marriage. After arranging the timing of the wedding, they held the Ma'ayava'ana ceremony.[6]

Prince J'emm J'axx visited the M'orzz home to get an update into the investigation of his father's murder. S'yrra arrived soon after. J'ann and M'aatt objected to the investigation as M'gann, Conner and Gar had sacred pre-wedding duties to attend to, but were mollified when Conner arranged to fit the investigation around the obligations. M'gann then took the group outside to introduce them to Baby, who, along with Bio-Ship would provide transport for the group as they split up.

J'ann, M'gann, S'yraa and Em'ree took Bio-Ship. En route to their destination, Bio-Ship informed M'gann of her plans to retire, and J'ann comforted her daughter.[5]

The Martian women took part in the construction of the ceremonial wedding canopy. Once the canopy was complete, they began to move it, but an argument broke out between M'gann and Em'ree, causing the canopy to shatter. Em'ree was resentful that M'gann was only having a traditional ceremony to please their parents, while M'gann called Em'ree out for never fully accepting her A'ashenn relatives. During the argument, M'gann took her natural Martian form, shocking J'ann who admitted that she had not fully understood M'gann's choice to change her appearance until she saw her in her old form once more and realized how false it felt. S'yraa told the group that such arguments were healthy in a family that cares, and suggested they rebuild the canopy.[5]

J'ann thanked S'yraa for blessing the wedding altar, and encouraged Em'ree to seek advice from her after her fight with M'gann.[8]

J'ann and M'aatt attended Prince J'emm's birthday celebration at the Royal Arena. When a bomb was discovered, they did not evacuate with the crowd, instead worrying over M'gann and Conner. Conner apparently died in the explosion.[8]

At their home, J'ann and M'aatt said their goodbyes to M'gann. J'ann tried to convince her daughter to stay and recover with her family, but M'gann insisted on returning to Earth. As M'gann and J'onn departed on Baby, accompanied by Em'ree, J'ann feared she had lost both daughters.[9]

J'ann and M'aatt Zeta'd to the Carr house for Conner and M'gann's wedding. They were greeted by Em'ree, who delighted them by informing them she had decided to go back to her birth name. J'ann happily watched the ceremony and gave an approving thumbs up when officiant Lucas Carr invoked C'eridy'all's blessing.[3]

Powers and abilities[]

J'ann also likely possesses other typical Martian powers such as shape-shifting and super strength.
