J'arlia J'axx is the queen regent of Mars.
Personality[]
J'arlia is a moderate ruler; she revoked most of the progressive reforms her late husband initiated, but maintiained his policy of persuing a closer relationship with Earth[3] and later began to support her son's more progressive views on the caste system, despite objections from Martian traditionalists.[5][4] Her views on Earth were particularly motivated by the common threat of Apokolips.[3]
Physical appearance[]
Queen J'arlia is a B'lahdenn (Red Martian), thus her natural skin color is red and her eyes are blue. She wears blue and gold garments along with a headdress that sports a single frill-like piece situatated on the center of her head, which represents her status as queen.[3]
History[]
2020[]
After the murder of her husband, King S'turnn J'axx, J'arlia became the queen regent of Mars. She revoked all the reforms her late husband had made to advance the rights of A'ashenns. However, she continued the project to connect Mars to its sister planet, Earth, through a Zeta-Tube, a decision that has found much resistance from the most conservative members of her people.[3]
|
Consul R'ess E'dda approached Queen J'arlia at the Royal Palace with a mind link with over a thousand like minds to object to the Zeta-Tube test that was about to occur. J'arlia attempted to talk them down, but it was Martian Manhunter who succeeded in disuading E'dda's followers, and the test proceeded, resulting in an explosion.[3]
|
E'dda admonished J'arlia that he had been right about the Zeta-Tube, but was taken aback when J'arlia hinted he might be responsible for the explosion. Prince J'emm J'axx then arrived having heard rumors about the explosion and J'onn J'onzz's death.
Later, E'dda complained to J'arlia about J'emm having charged Superboy and Beast Boy with solving King S'turnn's murder. Despite his protests, Queen J'arlia approved of the idea, citing the humans' greater experience with homicide.[5]
|
Queen J'arlia, E'dda and R'ohh K'arr were in the Grand Hall of the Royal Palace when Prince J'emm brought Superboy and Beast Boy to investigate the site of King S'turnn's murder.[6]
|
At the Palace, E'dda tried to convince J'arlia to cut ties with the "Earthers", claiming that even King S'turnn would have changed his mind in light of recent events. J'emm was enraged that E'dda tried to speak for his father and J'arlia dismissed E'dda.
Later, J'arlia attended Prince J'emm's birthday celebration at the Royal Arena, watching from the royal balcony with him. J'emm was visibly despressed due to his late father's absence, but J'arlia encouraged her son to put on a brave face.
Later news began to circulate of the arrest of S'yraa S'mitt for King S'turnn's murder. E'dda took the opportunity to address the crowd and claimed that these events showed the importance of the Martian caste system, as King S'turnn had been killed by a G'arrunn who aspired to the life of a B'lahdenn. Prince J'emm quickly refuted this, instisting that his father's own intolerance had been to blame and that they should change. The crowd's response was mixed. Queen J'arlia appeared to side with her son, and insisted the festivities resume.
Soon after, a bomb was discovered beneath the Arena, and J'emm ordered the Queen be evacuated.[4]
Powers and abilities[]
J'arlia also likely possesses other typical Martian powers such as shape-shifting and super strength.
