M'ree M'orzz is M'gann M'orzz's older sister and the Chief Scientist-Bureaucrat of Mars's Science Center in charge of the Zeta project. Her human guise takes the form of Rita Lee. For some time, she changed her name to Em'ree J'onzz, but eventually reverted to her birth name.
Personality[]
M'ree felt ashamed of her A'ashenn father and siblings and wanted to distance herself from that side of her family to the point, she changed her given name to Em'ree, as well as her surname to her G'arrunn side, specifically that of her uncle, J'onn J'onzz who she clearly idolized. However, Em'ree denied them to be racist beliefs, claiming herself as a realist.[4][5]
Although Em'ree was ashamed of her A'ashenn heritage, she was saddened to witness the bullying that was inflicted upon M'gann and M'comm, but afraid of her losing her popularity amongst her fellow G'arrunns, she did nothing to help or protect her younger siblings. Em'ree's refusal to associate herself with her A'ashenn's side caused an estrangement and severe issues between her and M'gann. Despite the strain between the sisters, Em'ree was the only one of their siblings who was willing to attend M'gann's upcoming wedding, but even Em'ree displayed she was not entirely supportive of M'gann and Conner's marriage.[5]
Following her argument with M'gann, Em'ree began to finally realize the error of her ways, acknowledging everything M'gann said to be true, expressed her regrets of not protecting her siblings and wanted to find a way to make amends with her sister. In the aftermath of Superboy's supposed death, Em'ree grew concerned, realizing how the tragic and heavy loss had taken a toll on her sister and decided to leave Mars and travel Earth in the hopes of building a true sisterly relationship with M'gann and help her heal over the loss of Conner.[6][7]
Em'ree does not share her parents's traditional religious beliefs and identifies as a scientist-atheist.[6]
In the following months during her time on Earth brought about a change in Em'ree, where she decided to go back to her birth name as M'ree M'orzz, stating that was who she truly was, indicating she had overcome her insecurities about her A'ashenn heritage. M'ree's relationship with M'gann had also improved to the point, she was maid of honor at M'gann and Conner's long awaited wedding.[8]
History[]
Early life[]
Em'ree J'onzz was born to a G'arrunn mother and an A'ashenn father. Her birth name was M'ree M'orzz, before she changed it to her current one.[4] She is an older sister to M'gann Morzz and M'comm M'orzz. When she and her siblings were children, Em'ree, out of fear of losing her G'arrunn friends, wouldn't do anything to protect her A'ashenn siblings from being bullied. This caused a great gap in their relationship.[5]
She has been married twice.[5]

Em'ree met Miss Martian, Superboy, Beast Boy and Martian Manhunter at the docking platform of the Science Center and introduced herself as the Chief Scientist-Bureaucrat. She also informed that she had changed her name from M'ree M'orzz to Em'ree J'onzz and reassured M'gann that their father was fine with that. She then proceeded to change her form to make Conner and Gar more comfortable. She took on the appearance of Megan Wheeler from Hello, Megan!, but after M'gann and Gar's objections, she settled with the form of Megan's best friend, Rita Lee, completely oblivious to Gar's sentiment.
Em'ree offered M'gann, Conner, and Gar transportation back to their house, while she worked on the Zeta-Tube with her uncle, but they preferred to explore the city. Em'ree was taken aback by their rejection.
Later on, as she was working in the Science Center, R'ess E'dda strolled in and demanded the construction of the Zeta-Tube to be stopped. Em'ree insisted that the project was sanctioned by Queen J'arlia J'axx herself. As R'ess departed, she told her uncle that tensions among Martian castes had been rising, but she wanted to spare her sister and Conner from worries, as her parents wished their wedding to run smoothly.
Hours later, the installation was completed and Em'ree brought Mars's Zeta-Tube online.[4]
|
After the Zeta-Tube exploded, just as Martian Manhunter entered it, Em'ree attempted to contact the Watchtower, but all communications were cut off. She ran some diagnostics and concluded that the explosion was caused by an external source that added thermal energy to the Power-Core during the Zeta-Transmission.
In order to do some damage control with Queen J'arlia, she informed her they were still investigating the cause of the explosion.[9]
|
Em'ree succeeded in bypassing the fried comm-circuits and established contact with the Watchtower, via the M'arzz-Earth Communications Satellite. She was elated to find out that her uncle was alive and well, but the communication was soon cut off, as the Satellite suddenly exploded.[9]
|
Em'ree accompanied her parents and S'yraa S'mitt to meet her sister and Conner for the Ma'ayava'ana ceremony. She was startled to discover that the Priestess was performing the mixed-species ceremony fully aware of the entailed repercussions. She was not so thrilled about building the ceremonial canopy, though.[9]
|
As S'yraa S'mitt arrived at the M'orzz's house, Em'ree took off with her mother and the Priestess to build the ceremonial canopy for M'gann's wedding, but not before reiterating her lack of enthusiasm for the chore. Outside the house, Em'ree and the others we introduced to Baby.
En route to the Crystal Cave, Em'ree could not hide her annoyance, especially when M'gann recollected how she had bonded with Bio-Ship and when her mother comforted her. As S'yraa exhorted the wedding canopy as a symbol for new unions and reunions alike, Em'ree sulked resentfully.[5]
|
In tandem with M'gann, her mother and S'yraa, Em'ree assembled the wedding canopy with a motley of crystals. When it was done, she remarked that she didn't bother making one at either of her weddings. M'gann asked what she meant by that and an argument broke out. Em'ree claimed that M'gann was only doing that to please their parents and didn't really care about Martian religious orthodoxy, otherwise she wouldn't be marrying a non-Martian. M'gann accused Em'ree of being a racist, which is why she had changed her A'ashenn name to a G'arrunn one. In turn, Em'ree accused M'gann of being ashamed of being seen as a Martian. Their heated argument caused the canopy to shatter. Finally, M'gann accused Em'ree of not protecting her and M'comm when they were bullied as kids. Ashamed, Em'ree responded that she was just a kid too.[5]
|
After S'yraa S'mitt blessed the wedding altar and canopy, Em'ree timidly and reluctantly approached her to seek advice on how to mend her relationship with her sister, admitting that everything M'gann had said about her was true. S'yraa told her to start by telling her she was sorry.[6]
|
From the Science Center, Em'ree telepathically watched Prince J'emm J'axx's inspiring speech about ending caste prejudice. She then rushed to the docking platform to welcome her uncle and Superman who had just arrived via Javelin. She offered to take them to her sister, Conner and Gar at the Royal Arena.
After Superboy was seemingly killed in an explosion, Em'ree embraced her inconsolable sister.[6]
|
In the weeks following Superboy's death, M'gann decided it was time to leave Mars and Em'ree watched as she bid farewell to their parents, but grew concerned realizing that her sister had fallen into a deep mourning and despair over the loss of Superboy.
When M'gann and J'onn were preparing to leave Mars, Em'ree approached them and asked if she could join them on Earth. Em'ree expressed her desire to learn more about M'gann's adoptive planet and build a real relationship between them as sisters. J'onn happily welcomed Em'ree on their journey, but M'gann was less than enthusatic. M'gann, Em'ree and J'onn traveled in silence as they made their way back to Earth.[7]
|
Em'ree, M'gann and J'onn's journey back to Earth was nearing its end, with only one week remaining until their return. Em'ree attempted to lighten the mood by jokingly asking if they were there yet, only to be corrected by her uncle and realized her effort to cheer up her sister failed. Em'ree asked J'onn for his help in preparing dinner and made sure M'gann was alright before leaving. Em'ree and J'onn privately spoke as Em'ree revealed her concern about M'gann, who had completely closed herself off since Conner's death. J'onn tells Em'ree that M'gann needs her Earth family to help her truly heal, but Em'ree is unsure M'gann can wait that much longer until they arrive and questioned how her friends would help her get through this loss.[10]
|
Em'ree plotted to help M'gann to release her bottled up grief by provoking an argument, allowing her sister to finally express her emotions once again. M'gann quickly realized Em'ree's scheme and admitted it helped, causing the sisters to laugh together. Em'ree was relieved to see M'gann joyful again, who quickly broke down into tears as it had been the first time since she lost Conner and confessed she did not know how she would go on without him. Em'ree consoled M'gann, assuring that she doesn't have to know right away, but simply needs time. M'gann thanked Em'ree, revealing although she would be a terrible counsellor, she was a great sister.[10]
After arriving on Earth, Em'ree moved in with M'gann and got a job with the Erdel Initiative.[11]
|
M'ree was maid of honor at her sister's wedding. She greeted her parents when they arrived before the ceremony, and told them she had decided to go back to using her birth name.[8]
