Metron is a New God who invented the Motherboxes, Fatherboxes and the boom tube.

Personality[]

Metron is an extremely stoic New God whose only interest is knowledge. This was particularly evidenced in the lack of empathy and emotion that he displayed when Victor Stone was being consumed by his Fatherbox enhancements. He coldly declared to be only interested in seeing a Fatherbox override an organic system and that death was commonplace. He also doesn't deem humankind worth of any value. His abrasive demeanor led Bear to strike him on at least one occasion.[1]

Metron also is not above in conducting experiments on his own, as he manipulated Razer for four years, giving him false leads to his quest, in order to both calculate how long it would take for him to lose hope and to get the opportunity to study the power of both the red ring and the blue ring. His machinations to obtain knowledge had also earned him quite a bad reputation among the New Gods of New Genesis that they don't even need any explanation for an altercation once they hear he is involved.[2]

Metron views Halo and Cyborg as his grandchildren, having stated that they improved and enhanced upon the Mother and Father box technology by adapting it to living bodies; calling them "the children of the children of my intellect".

Physical appearance[]

History[]

Early history[]

Metron is a New Genesian New God.[3] At some point in time, Metron created Motherboxes and Fatherboxes, miniaturized, living supercomputers which could draw energy from "source of all life", and also invented boom tubes, among other things.[4]

Metron undertook a technology exchange with Krypton in which he acquired a Phantom Zone Projector.[5]

2016[]

Metron captured the energy signal of a Blue power ring which was following Razer, who was then a Red Lantern. Metron saw the opportunity to study both rings, and manipulated Razer into wanting to give him the Red ring to prevent it claiming anyone else. Metron took the Red ring to his Inter-Dimensional Vault where he could study it at his leisure. He then began to seed false clues for Razer's quest to find Aya, leading him into dead end after dead end, expecting it to cause him to lose hope and come back to him to exchange rings, allowing Metron to then study the Blue ring and watch the Red ring in action by angering Razer with the reveal of his manipulation.[2]

Using Dreamer's Motherbox, Superboy, Black Lightning, and Forager chased after him hoping that he would be able to cure Victor Stone, but Metron ignored them.

The group followed him to Minosyss Ring where they ran into Superman fighting against many Parademons. After the Parademons flee, Superman remarked that they will get them next time, but Metron informed the group that the Parademons already got everything Desaad and Granny Goodness required for their device.

Metron returned with them to Earth with the intention of studying the Fatherbox's effect on Victor, but not to cure him. Black Lightning realized they only need his Mobius Chair to cure Victor. Superboy flung Metron from his chair, and the latter retaliated with energy beams, but Black Lightning blasted him from behind and pinned him down long enough for Superboy to command the chair to save Victor via the Motherbox.

Afterwards, Metron dispassionately stated that Victor was thereafter fused with the Mobius Chair and the chance to study him was wasted. When Black Lightning asked whether Granny Goodness and Gretchen Goode were the same, Metron cryptically replied "No, and yes."[1]

Metron boom tubed the Premiere Building and whisked Violet, Victor and Lian away.

Metron told Violet and Victor that they were his "grandchildren" as both were part Motherbox and Fatherbox. He was impressed by how they had evolved his technology, and that both had become major players in the coming galactic conflict. He concluded by saying that he looked forward to watching how they would progress in the near future, assuming Darkseid didn't kill them first. With that, Metron returned all of them back to the Premiere Building.[6]

Highfather had Metron take a malfunctioning Ruction Cell to his Inter-Dimensional Vault.[7][8]

Having lost hope, Razer came to meet with Metron in his tower. Metron readily agreed to give Razer back his Red power ring in exchange for his Blue one.[2]

Metron retrieved the Red ring from his Inter-Dimensional Vault, and they completed the exchange. Razer put the Red ring on, but found it did not react at all. Metron then explained that he had in fact manipulated Razer into giving him the Red ring and fed him false clues in his quest for Aya for years. He told Razer this in hopes of angering him so that he might see the Red ring in action, and was not disappointed.

Razer chased Metron across the city, causing great collateral damage as his blasts were deflected by Metron's shield. Metron was delighted with the data he was gathering. Razer finally shattered Metron's shield, to Metron's surprise, and the resulting shockwave destroyed two statues, which fell on Forager. As the other Forager ran to the badly injured Forager, Razer realized his mistake, and demanded the Blue ring back. Metron refused, electrocuting Razer as he opened a boom tube to leave. The Blue ring then shattered its containment case and went to Razer, turning him into a Blue and Red Lantern simultaneously. Metron was astonished and demanded both rings back, but Razer pushed him through the boom tube with dual constructs.[2]

When Metron was returned to the Vault moments later, out of control after being attacked by Razer, he was immediately attacked by Lor-Zod, who punched Metron out of his Mobius Chair and used the Kaizer-Thrall to place both Metron and the chair in a torturous inter-dimensional state. Lor threatened to hold Metron that way until he told them where to find the Phantom Zone Projector.[8]

Metron's torture continued for over a day. When Ma'alefa'ak let slip Lor was Kryptonian in front of Metron, Metron claimed to yield, but instead of taking them to the Projector, he produced a piece of Kryptonite and then summoned the Sun-Eater that guarded the Vault and escaped on his chair

Metron boom tubed to the conference room in Supertown to gather help.[8]

Metron returned to the Vault with Orion, Rocket and Tomar-Re, but the intruders and the Projector were gone. Metron was able to trace the tear in space-time made by the intruder's escape. Metron refused pleas to explain the situation, citing lack of time.[5]

The group boom tubed to the location to find a damaged, abandoned Time-Sphere. Metron reasoned this meant Lor would try to use the Projector immediately, meaning they must quickly defend potential power sources. Metron continued to explain himself in only cryptic terms.[5]

Metron called a meeting with Orion, Rocket, Flash, Forager, Forager, Kilowog, Tomar-Re and the Forever People. After he (finally) finished explaining the threat posed by Lor and the Projector, he explained that Highfather had the Divine Guard protecting power sources on Supertown, while they would have to split up and defend the two potential sources on New Genesis's surface. Metron left with Kilowog and Infinity-Man.[5]

Theirs turned out not to be the site used by Lor-Zod. The group boom tubed to Boiling Lake Crater where Lor-Zod had been found, but by the time they arrived, the battle was over; the Projector was destroyed, Lor escaped and Tomar-Re was dead.[5]

Metron placed the broken Time-Sphere into storage in the Vault for future study, but lamented the loss of the Projector.[5]

Metron repaired the Time-Sphere.[9]

Rocket appeared in the Infinity Vault after being caught inside a collapsing boom tube. Metron offered her the use of the repaired Time-Sphere, and pre-set the coordinates to take her to Metropolis. He claimed to be rewarding her for her past help, and also to be conducting an experiment.[9]

After taking Rocket home, being boarded by Lor-Zod, and then taking Lor-Zod to the gene-bomb explosion and his death, the Time-Sphere returned unoccupied to the Infinity Vault. Metron smiled.[9]
