Mobius Chair

Metron aboard the Mobius Chair.

The Mobius Chair is advanced New God technology created and operated by Metron.

History

2019

After Vic Stone's body began to be overtaken by a Fatherbox that had fused with him, Dreamer recommended that his friends seek out Metron to use the Mobius Chair to cure him. Though Metron was disinterested in saving Vic, he used the Mobius Chair to travel to him to watch the unusual process of an organic being being overtaken by Fatherbox tech. Vic's friends removed Metron from the Chair, placed Vic in it and had a Motherbox instruct the Chair to save Vic. The Chair interfaced with Vic and sent the Fatherbox's "soul" back to the Source, leaving Vic with Mobius tech. Metron departed on the Chair soon after.[1]

Metron used the Chair to gather Halo and Vic and take them to a place outside of normal space and time, so that he could warn them about the danger Darkseid posed to them, before returning them home.[2]

2020

Metron used the chair to boom tube from Supertown to his Inter-Dimensional Vault with a malfunctioning Ruction Cell.[3] He used the chair to retrieve Razer's Red power ring from the Vault. The chair's sensors monitored the Red ring as Razer used it to attack Metron. Metron was surprised the Red Lantern was able to overpower the chair's shield. Metron used the chair to electrocute Razer and open a boom tube to escape, but Razer took back the Blue power ring from Metron and used both rings to push Metron and the chair through the boom tube.[4]

Upon returning to the Vault, Metron was immediately knocked out of the chair by Lor-Zod, who then used the Kaizer-Thrall to hold Metron and the chair in a torturous inter-dimensional state for a day. Metron tricked his way out of the torment and fled on the chair, taking it to the conference room in Supertown to gather help.[5] He returned to the Vault to find the inturders gone, but was able to detect the tear in space-time from their departure and followed them. They found an abandoned Time-Sphere, leading Metron to take the chair back to Supertown to ensure all potential power sources for the Projector were defended. He took the chair to one site on New Genesis's surface, though that was not the one used by Lor-Zod. Later, Metron and the chair took the damaged Time-Sphere to the Vault to be stored for future study.[6]

Background information

  • According to Phil Bourassa, his design was partially inspired by the style of French artist and cartoonist Jean Giraud, a.k.a. Moebius, incorporating accents and flourishes from both him and Jack Kirby. Regarding the dents and cracks, Bourassa attributed them to the "myriad perilous scenarios" and "all the hostile environments" in the cosmos through which Metron navigated for untold eons. Furthermore, he thought it looked cool as he likes "broken and fragmented stone". In his initial draft, the Chair "had even more damage, splitting the rock and cutting into the large circle behind his head which created an interesting design."[7]
