Nanaue was at the Conservatory when Kaldur'ahm arrived with his friends Miss Martian and Superboy. When they found Topo, a recent victim of a purist attack, Sha'ark remarked that he had that coming because he was no predator.[2]

King Sha'ark attacked Ronal. Lori accused Ronal and his friends of being purists and responsible for an attack on Topo. Nanaue was planning to eat Ronal, but Aqualad intervened.[2]
With the other students, King Sha'ark came to Aqualad's aide when they were ambushed by purists. He was quite eager to eat some, though Lori urged him not to.
Ocean-Master's magic weakened him, and he was about to be gutted by a purist when Topo used his ink spout and dragged him away. Sha'ark did not like being saved by the squid. Though he was out of direct danger, he was too weak to participate in the final fight with Ocean-Master in the S'atiroman Cave.[3]

King Sha'ark did not at all like the fact that Ronal had been pardoned, after he turned on Ocean-Master. Lori tried to calm Sha'ark down, but it took Topo to convince him not to eat the former purist.[3]
2010-2020[]
At some point after the Purist attack and his time as a student at the Conservatory of Sorcery, King Sha'ark led his city-state in an unprovoked attack on the fellow Atlantean city-state of Tritonis in the Indian Ocean, annexing its southern territory to that of Nanauve. Sha'ark would go on to launch several more raids across the border of Nanauve's neighboring city-states in response to climate change and food shortages caused by humans on the surface, a source of contention between Nanauve and its neighbors.[4]
King Sha'ark represented Nanauve at the annual Conference of Delegates. The opening day went little further than introductions, as Xebel had failed to send a representative yet. Sha'ark was vocal in his fury at Xebel's snub, and equally upset at Orin "flaunting" Poseidonis's wealth.
Later, Sha'ark went to an algae bar and goaded Lori Lemaris about the territory Nanauve annexed from Tritonis. Lori attacked Sha'ark with a spell, but Kaldur stopped things from going any further by punching Sha'ark, telling them to save it for the conference.[4]
At the first day of proper talks, Sha'ark was insulted by the insignificant representative sent by Xebel. Lori brought up the increased hostilities between city-states, particularly from Nanauve, but Sha'ark justified it on the basis of dwindling krill supplies. He angrily reminded Garth that stopping pollution from the surface world was supposed to be his job. When Calvin Durham mentioned his time with Black Manta, Sha'ark took some delight in recounting Durham's history. The conference came under attack from Ocean-Master, who easily resisted the gathered delegates and guards, but was forced into retreat by a mysterious stranger, who disappeared as suddenly as he arrived.[4]
As public unrest grew, Sha'ark, Lori, Mera, and Orin went to the palace in Xebel to discuss the growing crisis. When Ryus Nereus and Orin began to argue about each other's culpability for the current crisis, Nanaue urged them to fight.
With the other representatives calling in, Orin opened the Conference of Delegates. It quickly became clear that they intended to elect a new High King, just as Arion and Chian arrived at the palace. Like most of the other delegates, Sha'ark voted in favor of Arion, noting his power, and Orin reluctantly agreed to transfer power.
Sha'ark watched Arion's coronation speech, and saw him die shortly after donning Arion's crown. He was part of the unanimous vote to make Mera the new High King.[5]
Atlantean attributes: Atlanteans, although human, have through scientific and sorcerous mean developed several abilities which allow them to live comfortably under the sea:
Breathe underwater: All Atlanteans are capable of surviving the aquatic atmosphere under the sea. Some accomplish this without the presence of visible gills.[6][2]
Temperature resilience: Resistant to low temperatures[7] and the effects of freezing,[8] although notably hindered by high temperatures.[9]
