Project Thrinos was an operation of the Light to take control of Atlantis by creating a clone of Arion with the memories of Ocean-Master, who would then pose as Arion and take the throne. The plan succeeded, but only briefly, as "Arion" was killed by the Lords of Order upon donning Arion's crown.[1]

History[]

A clone of Arion was created by Ultra-Humanite using DNA obtained from Arion's flute. The body was then implanted with the memories of Ocean-Master, taken from a Psy-Back recorded shortly before Ocean-Master's imprisonment. Vandal Savage taught this new Orm everything he knew about Arion, and Wotan trained him in old magic, so that he could pose as the original Arion to take the throne of Atlantis.

To help sell the deception, a clone of Ocean-Master was also created. This clone was also given Orm's memories, but was also programmed by Psimon with false memories of the years following the recording of the Psy-Back, as well as commands to allow himself to be defeated by "Arion".[1]

When the new Ocean-Master attacked Poseidonis, he was stopped by Arion as planned, though Arion allowed his identity to remain a mystery.[2] Ocean-Master and Arion both helped to quell the pillar of fire created by Child, and Arion stopped Ocean-Master from killing Aquaman and Mera Nereus. Finally, Arion "revealed" himself. Much of the Atlantean public wanted Arion to become High King, believing he was the answer to The Prophecy of the One True King.[3]

After Child was vanquished,[4] Savage declared to his daughter that Project Thrinos was their sole priority thereafter.[3]

For several weeks, Arion pretended to be uninterested in the throne, while civil unrest in Atlantis grew.[5] Finally, the leaders of the Atlantean city-states felt compelled to act, and elected a "reluctant" Arion High King.

Thanks to inaccuracies in the false memories given to the new Ocean-Master, Orin deduced he was not really his brother. Miss Martian was able to restore Orm's memories of his creation, and made Orin aware of Project Thrinos. Orin felt he could not yet tell the public and be believed.

As Arion was making his first address to the Atlantean people, Aquaman and his team arrived with Arion's crown. Arion took the crown and donned it, and was immediately killed by the Lords of Order, ending Project Thrinos.[1]
