R'ess E'dda is a Martian Consul-General.
Personality[]
R'ess E'dda is an officious, conservative politician, who strongly believes in the traditional Martian caste system. He opposed King S'turnn J'axx's reforms on caste and strongly opposed closer relations with Earth, citing concerns over the influence human culture was having on Martian society.[3] Despite his strong belief in caste and rank, E'dda was often dismissive and condescending toward Prince J'emm J'axx, often patronisingly referring to him as a "youth" or "boy".[4][5]
History[]
2020[]
|
At the Science Center, R'ess demanded Em'ree J'onzz abort the Zeta-Tube test. Em'ree refused, citing Queen J'arlia J'axx's approval. R'ess stormed off to change the Queen's mind.
Later, as the test was about to begin, he approached Queen J'arlia at the Royal Palace with a mind link with over a thousand like-minded objectors. J'arlia attempted to talk them down, but it was Martian Manhunter who succeeded in dissuading his followers, and the test proceeded, resulting in an explosion.[3]
|
E'dda admonished J'arlia that he had been right about the Zeta-Tube, but was taken aback when J'arlia hinted he might be responsible for the explosion. Prince J'emm J'axx then arrived having heard rumors about the explosion and J'onn J'onzz's death. E'dda was certain that Ma'alefa'ak was responsible.
Later, E'dda objected to J'emm having charged Superboy and Beast Boy with solving King S'turnn J'axx's murder. Despite his protests, Queen J'arlia approved of the idea.[4]
|
E'dda, R'ohh K'arr and Queen J'arlia were in the Grand Hall of the Royal Palace when Prince J'emm brought Superboy and Beast Boy to investigate the site of King S'turnn's murder.[6]
|
At the Palace, E'dda tried to convince J'arlia to cut ties with the "Earthers", claiming that even King S'turnn would have changed his mind in light of recent events. J'emm was enraged that E'dda tried to speak for his father and J'arlia dismissed E'dda.
Later, E'dda attended Prince J'emm's birthday celebration at the Royal Arena, watching from the royal balcony. When news began to circulate of the arrest of S'yraa S'mitt for King S'turnn's murder, he initially refused to believe it. When R'ohh K'arr confirmed they had a confession, E'dda immediately took the opportunity to address the crowd. He claimed that these events showed the importance of the Martian caste system, as King S'turnn had been killed by a G'arrunn who aspired to the life of a B'lahdenn. Prince J'emm quickly refuted this, insisting that his father's own intolerance had been to blame and that they should change. The crowd's response was mixed, though Queen J'arlia appeared to side with her son, and insisted the festivities resume.
Soon after, a bomb was discovered beneath the Arena, and E'dda evacuated with the Queen.[5]
Powers and abilities[]
E'dda also likely possesses other typical Martian powers such as shape-shifting and super strength.
