The Sacred River is an underground river on Mars where couples hold their Ma'ayava'ana ceremony, a pre-wedding ritual in preparation for marriage.

In the days leading up to their wedding, M'gann and Conner took an upstream stroll on the Scared River by boat. In between admiring the beauty of the locale, they discussed recent events, including Gar's increasingly aloof behavior and intel Conner received from Prince J'emm J'axx concerning the murder of his father. The arrival of M'gann's family—in tow with S'yraa S'mitt, the Sorcerer-Priestess performing the couple's Ma'ayava'ana and wedding ceremony—brought their focus back onto their big day. With the wedding set to take place in three days, to make room for preparations and Prince J'emm's upcoming birthday celebration, S'yraa performed M'gann and Conner's Ma'ayava'ana ceremony, bestowing the couple the gift of love.
Once the ritual was complete, M'gann, Conner, and Garfield took a walk around the cavern. The lovestruck pair expressed their love to each other, levitating through the air in lockstep as they reminisced on how far their relationship had come in the last decade. M'gann began leading Conner and Gar towards seeing where Bio-Ship had flown off to, playing coy but promising that a pleasant surprise awaited them. Unbeknownst to the three of them, Saturn Girl, Phantom Girl and Chameleon Boy followed them from nearby.
As M'gann shepherded them along, the rocks in the surrounding cave suddenly began to break away and rain down onto them. Conner defended his fiancé from the avalanche, but the debris was too much, and they became trapped underneath its weight. M'gann, using her telepathy, narrowly stopped the boulders from crushing them. After making sure that Conner and Gar were safe, she broke away to investigate on her lonesome, having briefly glimpsed Saturn Girl's psychic signature moments before the collapse. She found nothing, but a sense of unease sent in when she realized that someone tried to kill them.[1]
