Sun-Eaters are creatures that absorb heat and energy. Metron keeps a baby one as security in his Infinity Vault.[1]
Behavior[]
The baby Sun-Eater in Metron's Infinity Vault had only rudimentary consciousness, though it is unclear if this is due to its youth or typical of fully grown Sun-Eaters. The Sun-Eater independently followed and engulfed intruders, absorbing their energy, but would move on if the intruders were able to evade it for a time. It was also capable of following simple commands, such as being summoned by a snap of Metron's fingers.[1]
Physical appearance[]
The Sun-Eater is a cloud of sparkling red dust, constantly changing shape and size.[1]
History[]
2020[]
|
Lor-Zod, Ma'alefa'ak and Mantis entered the Infinity Vault in search of the Phantom Zone Projector. The baby Sun-Eater snuck up on them and attacked them. Ma'alefa'ak was able to give them a brief reprieve by brain blasting the Sun-Eater, allowing them to escape into their Time-Sphere. Once they took the Sphere out-of-sync with the timestream, the Sun-Eater moved on. The trio spent the next day searching for the projector in between dodging the Sun-Eater.[1]
|
After Lor captured and tortured Metron, the New God claimed to yield, but instead of taking them to the Projector, he produced a piece of Kryptonite and then summoned the Sun-Eater and escaped. Mantis was able to pull himself and the others into the Time-Sphere and took it back in time one day.[1]
|
Metron boom tubed into the Vault with Orion, Rocket and Tomar-Re. The baby Sun-Eater approached the group, but when Metron ordered him away, he promptly obliged.[2]
Powers and abilities[]
- Energy absorption: The Sun-Eater draws in heat and other energy, quickly disabling most individuals caught within it.[1]
- Flight[1]

Background information[]
- Sun-Eaters are an amorphous, space-faring race that, as the name implies, are able to consume whole suns. They debuted as an enemy of the Legion of Super-Heroes. They were created by Jerry Siegel and John Forte in Adventure Comics #305 as an ape-like creature, but were later given their modern form in Adventure #352 by Jim Shooter and Curt Swan.
