  • Considering Superboy is half human, is it possible for him to gain/activate a power due to metagenes? Lagoon Boy was experimented on by the Reach (learning that he is an average Atlantean and capable of gaining powers aside from his Atlantean phisiology and Atlantean magic/sorcery). Must one be full human? Additionally, do all human contain the metagene, which is just dormant, or is it a selective mutantism?

P.S. I do not think he needs new powers and I do not want him to gain them. Just curious about the general concept.

Does this belong in a metagene forum rather than Superboy? If so sorry. Also, I understand that we do not have all information about the metagene in this Earth, but what is the knowledge from the comics? (I've tried reading online for more info but couldn't find the direct answer.) Thanks!

    • I believe in the comics, everyone is shown to have a dormant metagene.  I like to think about it as a random mutation in this Universe.  There was this Justice League storyline when everyone temporarily got powers, and were coordinated by Oracle (also powered) to save the Earth together with the Justice League.  I don't quite remember the specifics of how the powers were activated, or the name of the story-arc.

Superboy's human side MAY be able to express a metagene power - in the comics, he (used to) have tactile telekinesis, something provided by his human genes.  The trick is, of course, how is the Reach supposed to capture him.

    • Huh. Very intersting. I'll definately follow up with more research into it. Thank you, Zergrinch. You also answered another question looming in my head (if there was a story arc about it or if there could be one). As for Superboy's tackile telekinesis, I knew he was in possesion of them, but I was not aware that they were due to his metagene.

    • I have been looking for a conversation like this to express a theory of mine. As the original anonymous contributor said, would Superboy's human side give him a human power? It would be interesting to explore. In the comics, Superboy had active Kryptonian powers, but roughly at half strength. Perhaps to compensate for his lack of Kryptonian powers the writers/producers could have written a story arc where the Reach experimented on him. It would distance the character even more from Superman and give him a more unique twist. What do you guys think?

    • Out of wonder, does anyone know if they ever plan to give Superboy his original main power, that of tactile telekinesis? This was originally a big thing throughout the comics, up to and including him using it to take down an immense tower within a few minutes during the Infinite Crisis event. In the Future Titans event, his future self is also shown to be able to use full-blown telekinesis to the same extent as those such as M'gann M'orzz/Miss Martian, and Raven, both of their respective animated series.

    • I would love if they allowed him to have his original Tactile Telekinesis powers in the show. But then again I would equally love for them to grow Superboy's Kyptonian powers like in comic books. Atleast give him flight, since there are so many in the new team, and he wouldn't look that OP.

    • On ask Greg, he specifically said that he didn't really like tactile telekinesis and that superboy wan't going to get it on the show while he was still around.
