  • "Runaways" is the 14th episode of the second season of Young Justice, and the 40th of the overall series.

Logline: Nightwing tasks Blue Beetle with chasing down a group of potentially dangerous super-powered teenage runaways. But Blue's not the only one hunting them...

      Absolutely wonderful.

I also loved the three beetles having a nice chat. Maybe since they're brothers now they should get together for some tea and crumpets while they make plans to enslave humanity...

    • Indeed Eye of the Abyss, Jaime held back too much, Which is why I wanted Scarab in charge. He was unrestrained but still knew the ground rules (Nightwing's logic is flawless, Black Beetle is Bad, People kidnapping you in a restraint collar is bad, publicity is very, very bad for the whole covert ops gig, Apokalips incompatiable/bad news and that the Maurice deserved a plasma cannon to the face.) This guy(on-mode Jaime)? He's nothing but a Punk.

    • Don't you guys feel like the number 12 has a special meaning too (like the number 16)? Think about it: when the "runaways" manage to take everyone out of the building, we get a close look to a clock. That's when we see that the minute hand (and the hour hand probably) are pointing to 12.

        Loading editor
    • I had previously discussed, just because somebody goes back in time to prevent a certain event from happening doesn't mean it's entirely successful.

Now it's pretty well explained why Impulse didn't fully prevent the apocalypse. He knew nothing about Green Beetle, and that's likely because Green Beetle never showed up on Earth in Impulse's timeline. When he came back in time, he only changed the time stream so that the Reach didn't kill Jaime and reboot the Scarab (so, yes, I believe the Blue Beetle that Impulse knew in the future wasn't Jaime). So Green Beetle was likely Plan B of the Reach and, unless additional intervention happens, the Reach apocalypse could still come true, only now, Jaime WILL be responsible in part.

With that being said, I'm not entirely familiar with the Blue Beetle-Reach storyline from the comics but I suspect there might be a development to at least get Jaime out of the Reach's control, given that, as I understand it, Jaime ultimately learns how to control his relationship with the Scarab and not succumb to the Reach.

I noticed that as well. I'm curious to know what significance that has.

    • wow, green beetle is a bad guy. i did not see that coming, what a shock! (ok imagine that in a dull monotone and you got my reaction to the big reveal) at least they got that out of the way quickly and didnt dance around the blindingly obvious like i expected them to.

the runaways are cool and they were well cast, the voice actors really made me care about them. good to see they finally get some development other than "look they have powers now". i liked the minor running gag over samurai's lack of english, especially black vulcan's reaction to a really long bit of "yeah, i got nothing", its basically how i would say it so i got a laugh.

wow nathaniel is a real killjoy isnt he? nah im just kidding he did the right thing pulling the alarm. why cant the others be as level headed as he is?

wish we could have at least got a line about how red volcano is alive considering how his previous appearance ended. still it was fun to see him again, did he always use the term meat or is that new and indicating some interferance from the reach?

overall there were nice fight sequences but i cant really get past how impracticle using yourself as a projectile is in battle, couple that with how limited teleportation is, especially el dorado's, and that makes only 2 out of the 4 any use in battle.

I think he always used the term meatbag, or something along the lines. Also I notice you called Virgil Black Vulcan, are you that shure he's going to be Black Vulcan and not Static?

    • Anyone find it funny that the ruins from the bus station kind of hint at the Abandoned Gas Station of Solitude from Static Shock?

Even funnier that it was Virgil's idea to go back there (because it was the one place no one would suspect them to go)

What's with all the Black Vulcan vs. Static arguments? Who says they'll ever even adopt superhero names?

In my opinion he's 2/3 Static and 1/3 Black Vulcan. Although the name: Black Vulcan sounds badass I want Virgil to be Static. And in response to: "'i enjoy antagonising the people who refuse to say he is at least partly based on black vulcan" I know how good antonising feels, it's quite interesting...

    • Could it bee possible that in original timline where Barts from the Reach killed Jamie on the Reach ship due to the fact that Impulse( Bart ) would of never of been there to save him when the Reach scientist lady was trying to kill him in order to remove the sacarb so she could reboot it etc.   Just note that in the original timeline Tigress and aqualad would of still been undercover and Aqulad would of still given Nightwing the flash drive with the info on the Reach's activities. Note : Impusle arrived on February 28th 2016( Bloodlines ) which at this time only Aqualad would of been undercover not Artemis due to the fact the the events of 'Depths' would not have happened yet.

( Original tmeline aka Impulse's Future )..So say that  the scientist female suceeded in killing jamie in that containment pod , she would of killed him and removed the scarab from his back. They would then needed to find  a new host.....so it might be still possible that the Blue Beetle of the future is someone else , but due to Bart's interference in the timestream it may turn out slightly different. For instance.....The Reach failed to kill jamie in that pod because Impusle saved him which prevented them from killing him and removing the scarab thus The Reach had to find another way to get the Blue Beetle under conrtol and their side. Also another change impulse affected was the Neatron incident.

Is the Blue Beetle in Barts's future really Jamie Reyes????

He said that we would get at least nine, besides the aliens we already saw in Season 1. And so far we've seen:

      1. Czarnians (Lobo)
      2. Kroloteans
      3. Rannians
      4. Reach
      5. Appellaxians
      6. Kalanorian (Despero)

That leaves at least 3 more to go, which will include:

      1. Mongul's race
      2. Rimborians
        Loading editor
    • given that, any guesses for the last one. my knowledge of dc aliens is not great.

      Or Kryptonian.

    • Dhors (Kanjar Ro)?

    • So the scarab's (limited) control on jaime was actually the very thing preventing him from becoming a tool of the reach and enslaving humanity, no? and how could miss martian not notice his true intentions when she interrogatted him?

        Loading editor
    • I knew Green Beetle was actually an double agent for the Reach, I didn't want to be right because I actually like him.  But the timing of him showing up to help the team against Black Beetle was just too much of a coincidence.

I'm guessing the Scarabs can fool the hosts into believing they are actually in control, which is why Miss Martian couldn't read he was actually being controlled, plus she was unwilling to read minds.

I hope the team can find out the truth and get both Blue and Green Beetle to their side quickly

miss martian didnt want to read his thoughts, which allowed him to offer them up. it wasnt that he tricked her mind reading abilities, he didnt have too. alarm bells should have been ringing for every one of us right there, i know they were for me.

    • I suspect how events get tied up during the season is that the Reach will be dealt a setback but still be a threat. I suspect we'll learn the Reach successfully conquered Mars and they now have their base of operation in the solar system.

On the other hand, I suspect Jaime ultimately breaks free of the Reach -- so that would be the setback the Reach suffers.

Oh, and I don't think the four runaways end up with the Light in the end -- but as we know from Season One, the Light doesn't see such defeats as a setback, as long as they take steps toward their larger goals.

    • I think that because Impulse came to the past, it must've caused the timeline to change.  That Reach scientist lady most likely killed Jaime and gave the scarab to someone else, so because Bart saved Jaime, it caused the timeline to change.  Think about it, he said that Green Beetle wasn't in the history books, the Reach had a back up plan and that was to send B'arzz O'omm to infiltrate them and reboot Blue Beetle's scarab tom put him on mode.

    • I just had a thought: anyone else think Blue Beetle being moded will end up vindicating Nightwing? Either the secrets will come out and BB knowing will lead to disaster, or BB not knowing will lead to his downfall/rescue. The way this season's been going, I'd put money on the former.

Good enough for me. This should confirm that the Team shall be facing Mongul this time. Yay more Guardian. Sphere seems to look different in that shot with the Team, why is her center a different color?

If memory serves correctly there were two shots of the team. One from the pics from War and another one where the team was rising up on a platform of sorts. My guess the second one is a later episode, maybe even the finale, since that one seemed to have most of the team.

Can't wait the see the league again. We haven't gotten anything about them since episode 3 of this season. Looks like the Rimbor high council isn't given the league an easy time.

(Since Lois Lanes' B-day is between Nov - Feb, he possible missed that)
