"Intervention" is the 18th episode of the second season of Young Justice, and the 44th of the overall series.

Logline: The team embarks on a desperate endeavor to free Blue Beetle.

    • I love how most of Aqualad and Artemis episodes are odd numbers . Guess those images of the Light on that mountain were from "Summit". I really liked this episode. "Poor" M'gann. She dumped La'gaan to(presumably) get back with Conner. But Conner was on a date with Wendy ! And, yes! Queen Bee talked! I really liked how Dan Garrett was also brought into the Earth-16 Beetle legacy. It was nice to see Batgirl, Robin, and Rocket talk again. Oh, and Zatanna. Always good to see more of Zatanna.

    • when i first saw Dan Garrett, i was thinking he looked just like Indiana Jones.

    • I think they did that deliberately. He was clean shaven in the comics.

Tupka, please do tell me more about Dan Garrett and Ted in this episode, I'm really interested!

I saw a picture of him, it was really nice of them to mention him, I hope he and Ted Kord both have some lines at least.

    • Did Dan Garrett come before Ted Kord in the comics? Or was it flip-flopped? Did Rocket's voice sound different than usual? New VA, maybe?

        Loading editor
    • Dan Garrett was first. And yes, Rocket got a new VA (Kittie --> Denise Boutte)

        Loading editor
    • Strictly speaking, Dan Garret was first.

        Loading editor
    • Now this the kind of in depth plot detail that made me fall in love with Young Justice.

Here we all were thinking the Reach was two steps ahead of the The Team, when really the Team was five steps ahead of the Reach and as always the Light is ten steps head of everone else.

Highlights of the episode for me-

      • Seeing Rocket and Zatanna again, and hearing them (even if Kittie isn't voicing Rocket anymore)
      • Impluse- need I say more
      • Blue's scarb and it's commentary are back

and I'm I forgeting something...... Oh yeah

      • M'gaan dumping the water guy
        Loading editor
    • So....since Deathstroke and Sportsmaster killed Ted Kord, do we change, "He was killed by the Light" to, perhaps...."The Light had Deathstroke and Sportsmaster kill him" or something along those lines?

    • The entire section needs a rewrite.

    • Wow. The whole scarab hieroglyph on the wall thing that Batgirl found on a mission months ago is extremely similar to the roleplay plot Regulus and I created in January..

As for the episode: simply amazing.

      • Hearing the Scarab and off-mode Jaime was great enough, but the Scarab actually bonded with Jaime after going off-mode? I liked that a lot. Having Green Beetle off-mode is also plus.
      • Seeing Zatanna and Rocket again was marvelous likewise. I didn't even notice a change in voice actors. Weird. Must have been caught up with all the awesomeness going on.
      • Hahahaha Neverland forever!!!! Disappointed that M'gaan dumped La'gaan, but it was expected. Obviously she wanted to get together with Superboy, but tough luck for her. Neverland for the win.
      • Glad they mentioned Dan Garret, making him a part of Earth-16
      • Yet another episode without Red Arrow or Wally. Disappointing, but I guess it's clear they're saving them for "Endgame."

    • Yes this episode was fantastic!!!

Not the best ever but boy did it deliver.

      Highlights for me:

      - Batgirl in action finally getting props again and she was talking too! Added bonus.

      - Also Tim was there! Yes he really hasn't been speaking a lot lately. I was happy to see him adding his imput go Robin!

      - Zatanna and Rocket's return I was happy to see both the girls. They truly are a team if it wasn't for them Blue wouldn't be contained so well.

      - Impulse sticking up for Jaime and a few pal moments between them.

      - We finally find out what is going on in Blue's head and how Jaime is taking being on mode. Gotta love his loyalty to the team despite being forced to work against them.

      - The whole Blue Beetle thing explained. Plus The Team has had a backup plan all this time for when and if Jaime went on mode!

      - I think they handled Miss Martian's break up with Lagoon Boy rather well all things considered. I didn't want it to be a stab in the back or too dramatic. They both seemed to come to terms with things.

      - Poor M'gaan with the fact Conner is dating Wendy but I suppose she sort of deserved it. Still hoping for them to be together in the end.

      - And last but not least The Light has completely reared their head in things. Finally we'll find out what they are scheming and the true battle for The Justice League, and The Team will begin! I can't wait.

On a side note looking at the images posted for the preview it looks like at least a few of them are probably for the next episode.

All and all great episode I thoroughly enjoyed it and the fact a lot was explained. I can't wait for the next! Why must they end each with such a crazy cliffhanger?

    • I actually started liking La'gaan till he got so mad at the end of the episode. Maybe he spills the beans on Aqualad and Artemis next episode?

    • I was glad to see Batgirl, Impulse, and Zatanna in action. I'm sure the last 3 episodes will be just as good.

    • Great episode. Loved Toyman. Loved Zatanna and Rocket working together. Great to see Tim and Barbara in significant roles and its always good to see and hear Queen Bee, who as of #25 is my favourite villain of the series. The Blue Beetle backstory and lineage was wonderful. Liked Gar turning into an elephant on Green. And Green being liberated was a pleasant surprise. And the Ambassador! Clichéd villainy for the win!

      Make that fantastic episode.

The only negative I can pick is the change in voice actress for Rocket, I much preferred Kittie.

        Loading editor
    • First of all, the Isis appearance: While I know she's an Egyptian goddess, I wonder if Greg and company used her, in part, to reference the Secrets of Isis show that Filmation produced.

Second, really cool to get all the backstory on Blue Beetle. And, yeah, I'm sure it was intentional to make Dan Garrett resemble Indiana Jones. Nice how everything fit into place.

Third, it's good we get the Jaime-Scarab relationship back the way it was, because it's truly a fun aspect of Jaime's character.

Fourth, I wonder if we find out what happened to Mars now that B'arrzz is back in control of his own body.

And it was good to see Zatanna and Rocket play major roles in this episode, along with Batgirl and Robin. I would suspect the next episode is when we'll see a lot of focus on Aquald and Artemis... which might indicate that Red Arrow and Wally get integral parts in the final episode. With Nightwing, Superboy and M'gann certain to be a part of events, that would account for all the Season One Team members playing crucial roles in the outcome.

While it doesn't look like my theory on Kaldur and Manta will come to pass, part of me suspects there will be something involving Manta sacrificing himself for Kaldur. If it turns out the Light (other than Manta) set things up in hopes that Kaldur would come into the fold and simply use him to further their own agenda, I suspect it wouldn't sit well with Manta, much as Artemis' supposed death did not sit well with Sportsmaster... especially if it's revealed Ocean Master's "disgrace" was a ruse.

I won't say much more about what I'm thinking, but I suspect we're gonna see a lot of questions get answered in the final two episodes.

Impulse is really a good friend he really likes and cares for Jaime.Hope to see more action can`t wait for more Happy to see also batgirl and Robin and poor megan even though at first want her with conner now I don`t know what to think.8 or 9 of 10

    • Good episode. I especially liked Jaime's commentary over all the events. Good to see an episode with the Team in it for more than 20 seconds. And I had the weirdest suspicion that animal was Beast Boy.

All in all, I  enjoyed it. My one proble mwith it was The Toyman. He was way too easy to beat and I was personally hoping that he would be voiced by the VA who played Control Freak on Teen Titans. Oh well.

    • This episode was so great.

While I am not a fan of Bluepulse, (just because I see Bart as too young and it just seems inappropriate to me), I still like seeing their friendship.

Zantanna and Rocket working with the team again was so cool they got to come back and talk and everything. I think they really have developed a friendship since being on the team then joining the league.

I noticed Nightwing had a lot of his exes/people he had a history with on this mission.

It is a little surprising that they used the word murder and kill on a "childrens show", maybe it is not that suprising but it just seemed like something most shows try to avoid saying outright.

After seeing the promo picks i figured we would see Aqualad and Artemis so the whole time I was wondering when that would come in but never did. Im glad though because when there were so many pics out by yesterday i felt like they were showing us the whole episode and Im glad they didn't.

Im happy for Conner, its nice that he can be out with someone new.

I was a little mad at Miss M dumping Lagoon boy but now I think she made the right decision for him and herself. It did always seemed like an unequal relationship so I guess that is why I never could have that much of an opinion on it.

THERE IS STILL NO FREAKING WALLY!!!!!!!!! I actually thought that when Nightwing started to say were Conner was, I thought he was about to say with Wally but then he said Wendy and I was happy and sad at the same time.

I understand why some characters get more speaking time then other and given more seasons they would probably get more development and  screen time but they just didn't this season because its better to tell the story than to try to develop every single character, but I really want Wondergirl to have a little more speaking time, mainly because i just love her VA.

Overall amazing episode, with the exception of no Wally.

    • It appears Neverland is now canon! Hooray!

As for Lagoon Boy, I want to see him kill Miss Martian. She broke Connor's heart, then she used La'gaan as a rebound guy and nothing more. Now she has broken La'gann's heart in order to try and go back to Connor.

Toyman was awesome, "No fair!" is a great catchphrase for him.

Love to see Blue Beetle is now free again, but I wish they hadn't made him so whiny on-mode.

Alexander Polinsky has a distinct voice, but it's his only one. And I'm kinda tired of it. Also, hiring another actor costs money, and this was a good opportunity for Cameron Bowen to display his range.

Even as the Toyman, that was quick. And I just wanted Alex because it fit. Not to say Cameron Bowen was bad. He did a good job with it.

I'm guessing that they're saving all of them (Red Arrow, Wally, Runaways, etc.) for the final episode. It's supposed to have 70 voice actors, if I remember correctly.

      1.  They aren't romantically involved, they're just friends. Don't blow this out of proportion. 2. Why are you so surprised at the lack of wally? He quit being a superhero. If Artemis gets in trouble, I'm sure he'll be there in half a second to help her, but otherwise, he wants to go to college and live as normal of a life as he can. And he's not exactly too happy with Nightwing (as seen earlier in the season), so he's not going to do Nightwing any favors. He's not even all that powerful or useful to the team. Impluse and Flash are both far faster. And of course he was with Wendy. They wanted to mix things up a bit: Miss M dumps Lagoon loser to try to get back with her ex (who doesn't really trust/like her all that much anymore), but he's on a date with Wendy. And it's not like that was at all unexpected. Remeber his birthday earlier in the season?

He's always had a huge temper. Remeber the first few episodes of the season? And why would he spill the beans? It's not like it's Miss Martian's fault or her secret. He's stupid and impulsive, but not that stupid. He knows when to keep his mouth shut. Although that would give Nightwing an opportunity to boot him off of the team, which I'm almost positive is going to happen. He just doesn't fit in, and not just because he's half fish.

Maybe she was useless because they were trying to lose. Speaking of which, why did they want the two beetles off mode? To weaken the Reach? Did they corrupt the altar thingy so that they can later take over the two Beetles with magic? What?

And how did Blue talk  a few episodes ago during the press conference when the Ambassador wasn't talking into the microphone thing? The whole remote control thing with the Ambassador in this episode seemed like an innefficinet way of running Blue Beetle.

And that's odd, because he had a fairly minor role, but I really liked the aspect of his character we saw, and I never dislike a Batkid in action.

Can't wait to see what's going on with the Light, and that Green Martian design was so cool.

I doubt that he started dating Wendy at that same time. He was probably dating Wendy for a while but it wasn't mentioned on-screen. M'gann seemed a bit unsurprised by it. But either way, I'm sure that Wendy is to Conner what La'gaan was to M'gann, so there's still hope for SuperMartian.

I'd like to dissagree. Conner and Wendy definitely had some chemistry in Satisfaction. There was literally no chemistry between Miss M and Lagoon Boy. And Conner dumped Miss M because he thought that she was crazy and blah blah blah. You know the story. He's not going to want to get back together with her. I really don't think that Wendy is just a rebound girl. She seemed to care about him and he definitely felt something for her. I really never saw any basis or reason for a relationship between Lagoon Boy and Miss M. Their relationship just didn't make sense. Wendy and Conner make sense together from what we've seen.

Robin didn't do anything. Zatanna stole the show with her magic stuff. Robin threw like one birdarang and that's it. He was basically not there. We didn't really see anything of his character either. He was just there as muscle/backup. No character development at all.

No, you're missing my point. Why did the Light want the two Beetles offline? Granted, it could be (and probably is) that it severely weakens the Reach. However, isn't it possible that couldn't one of the Light's magicians did some stuff to the altar thingy that they used to cure Blue and Green that will later allow them to take the two Beetles over? It's just a theory. And I think that their suceptibility to magic/sorcery (seen when Aqualad kidnapped the team and blew up the Cave) is going to come into play again later, possilby in the finale. It's an easy way for the show to take the two people who could crush the reach fairly easily out of the picture, and let the other heros get some screen time.

The value of one character is not measured by their screentime or actions, but by their performance. Luthor has very little screentime and yet he makes a bigger and more lasting impression than most main characters.

    • Great episode due to Zatanna.

just sayin' Check the dates there. Winning.

Toyman was quite underwhelming...and the comment "This is Metropolis, Where is Superman?" is shown to be completely appropriate.

The similarity between Z's Trance Pose and the pose she takes in Legacy screenshot leads me to think Egypt is once again a main player in the game's central mythology.

So Co-operative Delegation is the Earth-16 name for Terminian?

THE REAL SCARAB IS BACK. And his meat operator too but he's not too important, I mean be realistic here. Could totally hear the Scarab's distaste for servitude when Ambassador was controlling him. Was actually thinking that Scarab was gonna slash the Staples off even when he was dragging the scythes along the ground. And in the end, Scarab totally prefers jaime to Reach. Win.

Neverland shall live on, shall crush the extant Supermartian hopefuls beneath Beetle's Peter Pan pose and show Miss Martian that saying "No" means "No", not an invitation to mindrape the "No" into a "Yes". Lagoon Boy can have Wonder Girl, just to watch WonderBeetle and WonderBoom fans to writhe in agony cause of anyone, he's probably the most deserving of ending out happy.

Queen Bee's in on it too so it seems. I suspect that Manta may be the only Light not aiming for Reach Downfall.

Indiana Garrett. Nice. Wonder if Helena Sandsmark looks like Angelina...

But the comment I was replying to was praising his character development in this episode, of which there was almost none. In my opinion, Zatanna was the most valuable and most interesting character in this episode.

Umm DUH. The Light wants the Reach out of the way. Luthor sent the Runaways against the Reach to distract them so that they could steal the key. And actually, Manta hasn't been shown to be participating in it, just saying. But it's clear that the Light is trying to get rid of the Reach without them finding out about it.

You've only seen like a minute of Conner and Wendy together in Season 2 and you're so sure about all of this? If you've been paying attention, you would know that there was some chemistry between Lagoon Boy and Miss Martian in Players, Chapter Four: Do Not Pass Go and that the only reason that Conner broke up with M'gann was because of her abuse of her telepathy (which by the way, seems to be dying down). "She left me no choice" was his exact words in "Earthlings". Wendy was probably just the first girl that he took interest in after his break-up with M'gann, just like La'gaan was just the first guy that M'gann took interest in after the break-up.

    • Oh yeah, a few questions/points about the scarab. It was clear that Dan Garrett was using the Scarab from the wings on his back. But he didn't have the whole armor. How does that work exactly? And Ted Kord decided that he didn't want the scarab latched to him, so he could just lock it away. That clearly involves touching it, so why did he get a choice, but it just automatically bonded with Jaime as soon as he touched it? It doesn't make sense.

Oh, whoops. I'm so sorry. I misread your post. I thought you said, "I suspect Manta may not be the only Light aiming for Reach downfall." Sorry about that. I think they're all aiming for Reach downfall, but Manta's main asset is Manta troopers, and sending them in would make it way too obvious that the Light was invovled. It seems like the Light is trying to keep their betrayl secret for now.

    • I'm so glad that Blue Beetle and Green Beetle have been saved. I loved how when Robin referred to Blue as a traitor that Impulse defended him. Such a good friend. Also I love how we got to hear Jaime's thoughts about everything. They cracked me up.

Loved the music when Zatanna started her magical rescue operation thing (whatever you call it). So ethereal and intense. I also loved how the ambassador had a little remote with the green and blue beetles on it. Makes me laugh.

I also feel for Jaime. I couldn't imagine having to live with my family with someone I despise playing a poor version of me. He seemed so resigned. It was heartbreaking.

But in any case The Reach lost two beetles in one attempt. HAHA! Also I wonder what the Light has planned for the world. I always hate it when they get something in their favor.

Heh. Star thought that the other day actually. Well, that they were lovers to some extent at least.

I think Amby's losing his control over the situation he was playing so well. Hidden Invasion Fleet, 3 Beetles, Love of a Country through Triple G, Successful spreading of Reach:Peach and Strawberry-Mango Goodness, Runaways under collar, War World ready to use with Crystal Key under their control.

Now, of all that he has 1 Beetle, the one damn Beetle.

Well Toyman may well be the first villain to have nothing to do with the Light. So, he must'n't be important, I mean if Shimmer is part of the light, he has to be below that abysmal standard.

More La'gann hate? seriously, he's the most emotional new member of the Team, M'gann made him comfortable in his own skin. He cares that to her it was meaningless and people think he was being immature.?? Have these people even had relationships and known loss? It's ridiculous.

Connor may not have been in the episode, but he had the most enjoyable Stab this whole season: <paraphrased> "I moved on to someone who isn't a crazy bitch that'll mind rape me when I disagree with her". NEVERLAND 4EVER Muaahahaha.

Well, the phrase lying backstabbing bitch comes to mind there...

With Art and Wall-man, I think they dropped the act they were putting on New Year's 2011. I also want to see if Black Manta's been playing matchmaker now that Kaldur's fixed and there isn't a green angelfish to keep watch on. Ba-dum-TCH!

But really, it could have just been the Reach taking advantage of the opportunity or Despero was an unwitting pawn. If the Reach planned for Despero to show up, I doubt he know about it. L-Ron, maybe, but not Despero.

Intergang was working for the light in season 1, but then tried to go solo this season and their leaders both ended up getting lobotomized. Despero is also true. But Desaad's role in all of this is still questionable. In the comics, Superboy thinks that he's the one attracting all of the aliens to Earth.

oh look at megan being a bitch once again. i honestly dont understand how anyone can like her since she spent season 1 manipulating conner into her image of the perfect boyfriend, the first half of season 2 doing horrible things with her powers that most villains wouldnt even do and the second half of season 2 being the worst girlfriend in the world. im really glad conner is moving on and im really hoping, no im begging that he doesnt give up all his character development and go back to being megan's lapdog. all that hate for l'gann should be going megan's way if people would just open their eyes.

was cool to hear a few people talk who havent for a while (yay batgirl). i normally dont like recasting but since i always thought rocket was one of the very few casting duds in the series i was glad to hear a new voice, much better and less stereotypically 1970's blacksploitation woman than before.

i love that there is a secret plan behind every single thing that happens on this show (still waiting to see how the pointless detour with Harm becomes vital to the ongoing plot), makes it really hard to figure out the motives of anyone, which is exactly what i want from a show like this.

nice history lesson on the beetles, i was worried dan garret was going to get the short end of the stick again like he did on smallville and batman the brave and the bold, nice to see him actually in the legacy. so ted kord was so badass that it took sportsmaster and deathstroke to kill him, man i wish we had seen him in action.

simmer is still useless and that is wonderfull, i will never get tired of her accidentally helping the heroes in a fight, why does anyone employ her?

cool to see toyman, even if that role could have been filled by anyone else who has already appeared. was good to see him being terrible at wha he does. also a nice subtle way of planting the "what the hell has happened to the justice league these past few months" seeds in the public. on a sidenote did anyone else think the guy yelling about how the reach were no good in that scene was virgil, i could have sworn it was his voice.

Harm might just be unrelated. It's possible that it was just a side story. He had no connection to the light, as far as we know. And it sounded nothing like Virgil, I watched it twice. Maybe the same voice actor, but not Virgil.

i was just making a joke about harm, i doubt he has anything to do with the ongoing story, its just that he is retty much the only thing that didnt contribute to the ongoing story so he sticks out in my mind.

    • M'gann is clearly the case of the individual who got rejected by those she normally lived around, tries too hard to fit in elsewhere and tries to mold others to be what she wants them to be in her world.

Plus... we haven't really touched upon what happened to Marie Logan and I suspect that made M'gann go off the deep end. Hopefully we get a brief explanation in one of the two final episodes.

    • And in looking again at these images , the first five certainly look like they are images from Summit. One thought on the fifth of those images: Looks like that's somebody in League of Shadows garb... and given the sai, is it possible that's Cheshire?

Either way, I suspect we find out the truth behind the Light's plans and that the Light-Reach relationship unravels.

doesnt give her a free pass for lobotomizing people though. its really starting to annoy me that she has had no consequences for her actions other than conner finally waking up and noticing his girlfriend is a crazy person

Possibly. I wonder who the one behind her is?

Oh no, I didn't say she gets a free pass... she's just somebody that seems to have issues with knowing how to properly handle the things that are bothering her. She couldn't take rejection so she hid her true form from the Team and pretended she lived in a sitcom, then she may not be able to handle well losing someone she calls family and takes it out on the bad guys. And Connor got caught up in both, so M'gann now has to deal with the fact that he's finally moved on.

Other then the fact that she was attacked by Deathstroke and Tigress, abducted, threatened to have her head blown off, almost killed by Cheshire, attacked by an imaginary Tula, and all that other good stuff.

Na, they look like regular Shadows to me.

Marie Logan was killed by Queen Bee in the comic.

I believe he's talking about not really discussing it in the show and/or how it affected Megan.

    • OFF-TOPIC: Hoping the fifth image of that assassin is Black Spider. Unlikey though.
