  • Thread to discuss the next three episodes, "Private Security," "Away Mission" and "Rescue Op."

I'll start it off by saying that I haven't watched all three episodes, but "Private Security" makes me want to see Will, Roy and Jim Harper in a sitcom based around Bowhunter Security, especially when it means Crispin Freeman gets to have three-way conversations with himself. :)

    • I have all these notes with things I noticed and suddenly they're all taken over by "Red Hooded Ninja" and a certain baby...

    • So, some additional thoughts:

      • 304
        • Those Goode Goggles are bound to become Justifier helmets.
        • another unword: Wound, from Unwind.
        • And on the topic of running gags: the school bus.
      • 305
        • now we know what the G designations are. It probably stands for Grayson? My money is Batman already knows.
        • Nice new take on Malefic. Can we just call him "Malcolm"? I keep forgetting where the apostrophes go.
        • Well, there goes another one of my pre-season guesses: Britt Baron does not voice Thirteen.
        • A superstitious cowardly lot! They plan and plot but they always get caught! Their even plans will come to naught! A superstitious cowardly lot!
        • Failsafe Omega. Yeah, which guy is fond of "Omega" again.
        • Halo now goes by Violet. Nice one. After last episode, I also guess wht they dropped the last name.
      • 306
        • garglegflewleewaslrw Terra.
        • garglegflewleewaslrw Jason. Better protect his page.
        • garglegflewleewaslrw Damian. Better create protect that one, and Ibn too.
        • No matter what Ra's says, Dick is turning into Batman. He even copies his speech.

    • The comedy vibe of the first episode felt really weird. especially after the dark opening trio of episodes.

I guess the overarching theme of the block of epsiodes is siblings: first the Harpers, then Malefic, then Terra (and Jason and Damian).

I was expecting the Infinity island ep to reveal Cass. Turns out it was virtually every missing batfam member except Cass.

Forager seems fun, but Halo is still my favourite of the newbies. She's also crazy powerful and we know there's still at least a green aura to come.

    • Additional factoid to the Goggles/Justifier Helmet theory: Goode. Obviously named after Goode World, but... during Final Crisis, Glorious Godfrey pretended to be a Jesse Jackson-like televangelist named... Reverend Goode.

    • Grayson/Harper team-up was something I never knew I needed! Makes me wish the show branched off more because I'd love an entire mini-series with those four.

The slow build to Mars is killing me. I want to go there, now! I don't know much about Martian Manhunter, but I like how the show shrouds that whole mythology in mystery.

Animation improved greatly! A glitch in the Matrix with those first three.

    • They talk about New Gods so casually, too. Do they know about Apokolips or Darkseid?

        Loading editor
    • It seems like the Justice League is actively involved in a war against Apokolips, per the first episode, so I assume they know quite a bit about the New Gods now.

    • I always wanted to see M'gann's brother, but sadly I wanted to seem him in a more civil manner.

    • "Private Security" is an episode I can't get enough of. The quotes section is going to need its own page. My personal favorite (which may change at any time):

Dick Grayson: "Whose idea was it to put this team together?" Harper family: "Yours."

Also, an interesting way for Will Harper to call out Dick about his way of dealing with Wally's death.

We'd be remiss if we didn't mention the moment between Zatanna and Zatara. Nice that we were able to revisit that relationship.

"Away Mission": Always fun to see Bear and that he considers every friend of Superboy and M'gann a worthy friend and ally.

I wonder if we'll get to see the real Orion down the road.

Agreed that they have a great take on Mala'afahk (not sure if that's how it's spelled) and now we have our family relationship with members on both sides of the hero/villain spectrum. Though in this case, the villain has a clear motivation beyond just being evil.

"Rescue Op" was a nice callback to "Independence Day." Also, Red Hooded Ninja and the baby, but we're already talking about that, I see.

Agreed, Tupka, that those Goode googles are gonna play a big role in Darkseid's plans (which are presumably Vandal Savage's, too).

And if Ras Al'Guhl is truly out of the Light, I would imagine he doesn't view "anti-life" as the way human evolution was supposed to go.

    • Daaaamn. That was a lot to take. So many thoughts. Trying to getting it together.

    • Okay, raise your hand if you think Terra and Red Hood are a red hearing/misdirection.

    • One note, I was expecting Damian to be about 8, since I had assumed he was conceived during or just after Bruce and Talia's original relationship. But since he's a baby that gives us Damian, Lian, Artur, Amistad, Dawn and Don all within a few years of age. The Team lineup for season 5?

    • Looks like Nightwing and Oracle are together now. Good I was hoping that would be the case since season 2 of the comics.

        Loading editor
    • Damian was a possibility at Robin age even during season 2 - that 8 is the minimum age he can have. We don't know how long they've been at it, but I hope after Talia turned 18, so could've been between 7 and 17.

As much as I hope they're just messing with the fanboys, it's probably Jason and Terra. Somewhere I hope this is all the Jason and Damian we'll see in s3 just to mess with us. Talia was just her Bad Blood character model, from the looks of it. Which means red sword lady is probably Shiva.

        Loading editor
    • Yeah, I expect this is it for Jason this season, then a version of Under The Red Hood will happen in the next timeskip, and then Red Hood will be running around in season 4.

Just rewatched 304. As much as I love grand Light plots and Zanatos gambits, it's great to just a see a simple theft, as in Satisfaction. Connor having a job as a mechanic, throwing back to tinkering with the bike in S1.

    • Also, for those more well versed in the comics, any idea who the two metas working for M'Comm are? And is there any significance to the tree Zatanna and Fate meet under?

    • Just saw the 4th episode today. It was nice to see Zatanna and Zatara together. Poor gal sure felt the mode when he left.

    • Not just that, Conner and Megan living with Snapper. On his orchard? Teaching doesn't make enough so he's into kraft cider on the side now?

At least we now also know more about Will and Artemis' living arrangement - separate bedrooms, so they obviously just share a house. Star City being San Fran-ish, house prices are probably through the roof. Even owning a security firm wouldn't pay for that, and what is Artemis' day job anyway?

        Loading editor
    • Artemis considering Jade as a possible leader for the League of Shadows also makes it clear that she's gone back to her old ways in some form.

I'd been thinking him sleeping a lot was a reference to him getting old (and possibly dying this season), but pregnancy? Of course it's hard to believe they wouldn't be able to tell his sex easily enough.

I don't know. Jason, maybe. But a shadowy figure who drops a boulder on some dude, Tara missing and Dick & co. immediately connect the two? Seems too obvious.

    • A few minutes into Private Security, I was sure the episode was a comedic pallet cleanser after those first three eps set the darker tone for the new season. And then Fate said only one hour. And then after  Dick said 'Wall' and I wasn't ready for the emotional implications. (Also, hey to any old faces who I haven't seen in years).

well the average life span of a wolf is 6-8 years and it's been 8 years since Connor took wolf in, then Wolf is at least his full height before being experimented on so I would think Wolf is abou 10 which means he could be near the end

    • Oh wow, a Red Hood whose name actually makes sense, as opposed to the Red Helmets, Red Fishbowls and Red Sack.

My thought was more to old age, nearing death given familiar attitude by mine. But, wouldn't be the first time that an experimental animal had taken on hermaphroditic properties due to altered genes and no available mate.

No doubt on Halo being a Motherbox now. Apparently that was the Bialyan Invasion that we saw though. Still feels a little odd to call it that, when its accepted to be United Bialya as a non-rogue nation now.

Liked the admission that just putting whatever stray they find on the Team isn't the solution all the time. Good to see Arsenal mellow when Not put straight into traumatic world threatening danger.

Forager and Brion are fine, haven't wow'd me yet but nothing bad really.

Fate and Zatanna were great as ever, hopefully see some more of them. Magic always has a price.

    • Am I the only one who thought that person in the shadows at the beginning of episode six was Supergirl for a second? I was confused by who could be in that position to drop such a huge boulder and then I saw a blonde girl with red eyes standing in the shadows so my mind just went to Kara. I was hoping she would be introduced in this season since we're dealing with Apokalips and Darkseid and her story is very much tied to his.

        Loading editor
    • So Deathstroke is gonna be the new leader of the League of Shadows and member of the Light, isn't he?

        Loading editor
    • Just finished the episodes and man did I not expect to see Jason Todd and Damian Wayne any time soon, never mind early into Season 3. I'm thinking that's all we'll see of Damian for the season; there could be more encounters with Ra's Crew ("League of Assassins" maybe? Separate from the Shadows and whoever runs them. Deathstroke doesn't sound like a bad bet, Mrmichaelt). If so, Jason reappearing as nothing more than a lackey assassin with small hints of his true identity doesn't seem that far-fetched to me.

Bowhunter Security was gold; easily the most enjoyable filler-type episode I've ever watched. I actually laughed out loud on a part I can't recall but it was a nice juxtaposition to the first trio of (intense) episodes. All the Harpers together in present-day was nice to see, especially because I always wanted to see more of all the Harpers in each of the previous seasons. I liked the Wally moment they threw in between Dick and Will (Wall, lol) - RIP to everyone's beloved speedster.

Nightwing eventually coming to accept his role as leader of the Outsiders was obvious from the get-go but it was nice to see the return to that unavodable role. I know he's had a good deal of screentime in season 2, but I feel like we're already seeing a more fleshed out Nightwing in Outsiders; he's got those quips and liners from Private Security and beyond, but not at the expense of his serious demeanor as leader (warning Brion in Rescue Op was reminiscent to Season 2 and his conflict with Arsenal). Also, DickBabs! Cute relationship; expecting some reference to Babs' condition and the origin of Oracle somewhere down the line.

A surprise to no one in existence but Brion is so Superboy S1 it's not even funny. So obvious that the connection is repeatedly mentioned by the characters, including SB himself. "Brion. I want you to literally chill." L o L. Would S1 Superboy do something as smart as showing up to al Ghul's very dangerous doorstep to make the ancient badass of a man give him info? You decide.

Halo has the absolute coolest powerset, man. They're fleshing her out well, too. Young Justice continues to excel at juggling multiple characters and arcs in my eyes. It never feels like too much to me; the development between Megan and Malcolm fits under this category and I am definitely not opposed to seeing more.

It wasn't as long as I'd like, but the Team interacting and in-action was a blast. Can't wait to see more of them, especially in episodes devoted to them.

I know I've got more to say but that's all that's fresh in my memory that I want to get out there. Oh, yeah. Animation didn't bother me too much before but the improvement was 100% noticeable. Yet another aspect to be excited about moving forward.

        Loading editor
    • It's official. M'comm is the Demona of the Young Justice universe. Corrupted with anger and hate and not the sort to let M'gann help him out.

Even Mantis refuses to listen to reason.

Didn't count on Ra's al Ghul returning.

On another note, this week's episodes seemed like a breather from what happened last week. Looking forward to see what's next.

        Loading editor
    • If they are setting up the Red Hood, then probably Jason will be named dropped at some point. Maybe when someone mentions Oracle's condition they will tie both incidents to the Joker. Perhaps when he appears. I wonder if they have something special set up for the Joker too, following all the negative backlash from his first appearance.

        Loading editor
    • The more I think about it, the more I think they are going to be doing somehting significant with Jason sooner rather than later.

Any other time they tease a potential major character it's in a very subtle way that someone who wasn't knowledgable about the comics and paying close attention wouldn't notice (see Barbara Gordon, Cissie King-Jones, Stephanie Brown, even Damian in this episode).

They could have easily left the dialogue out and just let the character design and VA credits do the work like they did with Steph, but the way this tease is set up, even someone who doesn't know anything about Jason Todd will be wondering who the guy with memory loss is and why does he know Nightwing's secret ID. It's a much more obvious set up which suggests a quicker pay off.

        Loading editor
    • Now that others have mentioned that Deathstroke may be the new leader of the League of Shadows, is it time to speculate that he took a seat at the Light's table?

Might explain another reason why Ra's al Guhl is no longer with the Light.

        Loading editor
    • Greg has said in the past that all the members of the Light were usually on the same page, so unless they changed their original plan and he disagreed with it, the only reason for Ra's departure would be a change of heart.

        Loading editor
    • Or if Deathstroke displaced Ra's and the Light abandoned him in favour of the new leader, c.f. poor disgraced Ocean Master.

        Loading editor
    • No honor among thieves? I don't see the Light condoning a coup. Ocean-Master was ousted but not to make room for someone else.

        Loading editor
    • Their whole motive is survival of the fittest. But either way, if Deathstroke moved fast enough, perhaps soon after Summit when the Light was still somewhat disordered and Ra's was still recovering from his latest death, the Light might not have had time to do much to help Ra's. Deathstroke would need to escape pretty quickly to make that happen, but being captured doesn't seem to be much of a hinderance to the bad guys any more.

        Loading editor
    • Why are we assuming it's Deathstroke, who has no explicit history with the LoA on Earth-16, and ignoring red-suit sword-lady that's maybe Lady Shiva?

        Loading editor
    • I'm much more preferential towards Shiva than Deathstroke as the head of the League. Especially given the recent Detective Comics, where Shiva leads the League of Shadows, which are there an offshoot of the League of Assassins (which Ra's small group could easily be named as.)

Plus, I'd take Cassie Cain stories over anything Deathstrokes involved with.

Regarding presumed Damian, are the thoughts that Batman got back with her at some point after the comic? Wouldn't be the first time Batman flip flops in relationships constantly, but I have an idea that it might've had the embro frozen for later use. Perhaps using the baby as a weapon to steer Batman against Ra's usurper.

Deathstroke admitted in Invasion he had higher ambitions than replacing Sportsmaster so it's set up that he would want to be a member of the Light. Based on the out of context scenes in the trailers, it looks like he, "Shiva" and the Shadows are either on guard on Santa Prisca or relocated their HQ there when Batman, Katana, and Metamorpho perform an op. I agree DS could have made a move after "Summit" but with Ra's - it could have been a change of heart. I can see that sub-plot with Jason being a kind of alternate take on the Under the Red Hood DTV from the DC Universe line, what would have happened if Jason didn't flip out and run away from the League?

    • I so far love the season, I can't wait to see what the rest has in store. Two things I am curious about:

      1) Every week are three episodes going to be released?

      2) Anyone else thing Halo/Violet and Brion are going to become a couple at any point of the season or show even? Personnally I think they are so cute together and it is obvious they both already care about one another. I think they would make a rather cute couple. Anyone else's thoughts on it?

Other things I wish to know, but those are the top of my list. And the couplelyness so far is adorable even if so much is subtle, makes it all the better!

And we seriously need to see the Roy clones in more episodes together, they make an awesome team!

    • Few more observations on rewatch.

      - M'gann scrapbook making, which were the memories she showed Ma'alefa'ak. Also neat to see Marie Logan and John Smith amongst the memories.

      - The USS Endangered (very beast boy name) being a game for the Goode Goggles. So the Goggles are airing the anti-metatrafficking public service announcements. Suppose that's a fine way of slipping under the radar, work with the good guys against a "bigger bad".

      - Got some Swamp Thing vibes off the Fate scene Tree. Nothing really conclusive, but Parliament of Trees would make a good "neutral" zone for a Lord of Order to show his vulnerable form safe from the Lords of Chaos.

      - From the "special relationship" and "especially Bio-ship", I can get behind Halo-Sphere and Forager-Bioship Ships. Odd, but I can dig it.

Well in the Comics Ra's is a Eco-terrosist and I don't think that lines up with what the light is doing anymore, because all the other want to rule while he wants to make earth a better place again by bringing back the enviorment.

Queen Bee- ruler, Lex-wants to become president, Orm (Disgraced)- wanted to take the crown, Savage wants to move the earth to the center of the universe (And in the comics he wanted to rule) so i think it's quite a possability that Ra doesn't agree with what is going on anymore and left the light or he had a change of heart.

The two most likly people to take over the shadows and his position in the light are Lady Shiva and Deathstroke, both who have wanted to in two diffrent forms of media

    • I concurred/thought of Deathstroke as being the most likely, new head of the League of Shadows because even though Earth-16 is obviously its own universe, I figured it might be a nod to one of the films in the new DC animated universe where Slade overthrew Ra's and became the new head of the Assassins (I think it was the first film Damian was introduced in). There's also his previously voiced aspiration to become a head of the Light. Taking over Ra's' League of Shadows (Ra's being a head of the Light back when he controlled the Shadows) seems sufficient for him to achieve his goal.

Could also be Shiva now that people mention her role as such in the comics; might be how she's introduced to Earth-16.
