    • Lots of interesting things!

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Metamorpho was a member of the Justice League, possibly the space team, that also resigned alongside the others. Would make sense, we know that Kaldur is 27 and Steel is 36, leaving 8 other members' designations we currently don't know. My bet for those 8: 1-Batwoman, 2-Fire, 3-Ice, 4-Hardware, 5-Adam Strange, 6-Metamorpho, 7-Katana, 8-Adam Strange (not in that order necessarily). Hopefully we can get confirmation on that as the season goes on. I will also say that I was totally expecting that Reach meta-human failsafe pod that was secured from Stagg to lead to the creation of Metamorpho... given their connection in the comics and assumed it would play the role it did in creating Cyborg. The fact that Metamorpho is a core Outsider in the comics and they circumvented his origin is also what leads me to believe he was a member of the League.

It was cool seeing a little of Vic's backstory and his life beforehand; also Cisco Ramon is one of his classmates! It'll be interesting to see if they do anything with him. All and all, I'm content with Vic's origin. I think it was very by the numbers, but I expected that and I'm glad they're seemingly not going to focus on the Fatherbox taking control of him anymore. I'd much rather explore him accepting who he is and learning to use his new abilities.

I think it was nice learning a little bit more about what happened with Garfield. So Steve Dayton won custody of him and that's why he isn't an active member of the team, but an actor instead just like his mom. Also nice learning that the Doom Patrol exists or existed in this universe, it sounds like they all died on a mission just like in most iterations. I guess I'm just curious as to when. But it seems like now Gar will be coming back to the team now which is great. Side note: that whole homage to Teen Titans Go! was hilarious, especially with the voice actors contributing their talents to the Doom Patrol.

For what I'm just going to call the mid-season finale, I think they did a great job. They resolved some character arcs and set up some exciting plot points for the second half of the season. It was nice to learn about Halo and put an end to her story arc about who she is. It was also nice seeing Brion grow and mellow out as he gets a better handle on his powers and Forager... well he's Forager and it's great Haha Also they introduced another Bat-Family member: Harper Row!

Overall, I really enjoyed the first half of Young Justice: Outsiders. I think nearly all of the episodes have been really captivating and for the most part they all contribute to the story in one way or another. My only critique though, is that I hope we get to see more of the Team in the second half (and I fully expect that we will and that that was part of their plan). I want to learn more about Thirteen and catch up with Kid Flash and Blue Beetle. I also want to learn more about Arrowette, Spoiler, and Orphan who I don't think was on the Team otherwise she would've been there when Tim and the others resigned. So there's still a lot of new characters we have to learn about.

PLUS! JUDAS CONTRACT... that's going to be tough for Geo-Force. It'll be interesting to see if they actually complete that story this season or drag it on into a potential season 4. I hope that they drag it out and have her as Deathstroke's mole for the long run. I think from Deathstroke's perspective that would make more sense, otherwise why have a mole for such a short amount of time... seems like a lot of work for little return.

To finish up here, anyone think that we'll see Starfire or Raven? I've had a theory that we could still get the classic Titans in this universe as a separate entity from the Team. One option is that they're made into a celebrity like team of heroes kind of like Marvel's New Warriors or option two would be the Team gets so big that it's divided into squads or divisions (different from their squads that they have now) where one is the west coast and another is the east coast.

Lastly, I have a strange feeling that we're going to get something like Titans Tower at the end of this season, or maybe I'm reading too much into things and we're just going to get the Outsider's Bunker Haha But with Conner talking about a secret base, Mt. Justice being destroyed, and the League being a little shaken up... I could easily see a "T" shaped tower getting built where Mt. Justice used to be... "T" for Team!

    • Why does Forager need to go to school? He is an alien.

    • Must admit I wasn't as bowled over with these as I was last week. Nightmare Monkeys was my fave of the four, it's great to see them continuing to try different story telling styles.

    • And now we have, what, five months? to make sure everything gets added to the wiki.

    • Honestly, I was expecting way more from "Exceptional Human Beings", with Batman et al. Also, I really hope there's more than meets the eye as far as Tara is concerned and they're not just rehashing The Judas Contract.

Other than that, Victor was definitely the highlight of the 4-episode batch. And "Nightmare Monkeys" was waaaay better than the episode's title led to believe.

    • I would've loved for Katana to have lines - even if was just also Gwendoline Yeo. Orphan being silent is amazing. Katana... annoying after a while.

Metamorpho was a bit of a let down. Especially early on, he was basically Plastic Man. Not until his costume was blown off did he become interesting.

I don't think either, from what i got, they created an entirely new person which is why she doesn't refer to herself as either Gabrielle nor mother box. She has the mother boxes powers and some of Gabrielle's memories but everything else is new to her.

      Connor looked neat in boxers.

Jade is unbelievable. She finally shows up again and then she leaves before even saying "Hello". How long does she plan to stay away from her own daughter?

Even without the venom, Bane can fight. Huh. Who knew?

      Episode 11 thoughts:

      And Brion's homesickness continues.

Wow. A glamour charm for Forager to look human.

Love how every time Violet flies, Artemis yells "No flying at school!".

Oh, my gods! Who can unsee a bloody mess like that?

Brion really should mellow out. There was no need for a fight.

Poor Victor. But it was the only way to revive him.

      Episode 12 thoughts:

Got to love Beast Boy in that movie scene. Though the part where Gretchen Goode meets him raises a lot of questions.

That tech inside Victor controls machines like the Sphere? The sooner they remedy that problem, the better.

Wow. Beast Boy had a close call. Even after that mess with the Goode Goggles, he survived.

A kiss scene that's thrice as sweet.

      Great collection of episodes today.

Father Box is what is inside of Victor, which is from Apokalipse and the opposite of a Mother Box which is from New genesis (Same with Sphere) from what i can tell, father Box is extremely aggressive while the Mother box is extremely caring. Sphere probably sensed the father box getting ready to attack Violet

    • Episode 12 was one of the worst of anime episodes I had ever seen! Really like the stuff with Cyborg not so much them sending Halo and Forager to school. I like Episode 13 until the very last scene. Are they really doing Tara, again? Can they not tell any new original stories with the characters? Jason Todd, yeap. Tara, yeap. I had been into comics (and DC series since I was a kid in the 90s. I had seen all of this before. Anything new, please!)

Why is Oracle ordering Batman around? I like the battle between Katana and Shiva, either those it was a little short. I had noticed that the episode that I seem to think are writing the worst, seem to be written by Greg Weisman.

I also like Harper Row, hope she will become part of the team.

    • I have to agree that sending Forager to school as a human was not good.

Harper was good. All of them.

      The DPG was great.

      Tara was an eyeroll.

Cyborg... Idk. I feel like he's basically at the Terra/Raven point of overuse of singular story, his origin story and not dealing with being a cyborg has been told so many times recently it just doesn't have an impact.

        Loading editor
    • @Ashcat19

Harper Row isn't connecting to the Harper (surname) family.

Not sure what you meant about the DPG?

I actually agreed with you about Cyborg. Once I started to think about it I realized how much Cyborg in the last 20 years had become one of the second-tier DC heroes. Hell in some of the variant he is a founder member of the Leauge, or one of it first recruit. There are only three first-tier DC heroes (Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman) in my opinion.

        Loading editor
    • That "confusion" was pretty clearly established in the episode. But Harper is still able to refer to 4 characters who performed quite nicely in the episodes in my opinion; Row, Violet, Will, Jade.

      DPG = Doom Patrol Go.

    • The last couple of episodes really lean into the weakest/worst parts of the series. The story/plot is getting really dangerous and exciting, about to reach a crescendo, then instantly taps out. The resolutions are either super easy and rushed and don't do justice to the complicated setup (ex. "The Fix", "Intervention", "Endgame"). This happens again in "True Heroes". It's such a cop-out. And then there are the exposition dumps and off-screen actions that tie everything up ("Usual Suspects", "Summit"). I feel that Black Lightning is this season's Impulse, a character who was set up with a lot of mystery and intrigue but becomes a background character as the season progresses. I'm surprised they did Cyborg's setup and origin almost verbatim, I thought they'd put more of a spin on it.

I assume all of this was done as a palette cleanse so they won't have to deal with all this baggage in the latter half of the season. Disappointed.

        Loading editor
    • Also, did anyone else think Batman sounded weird when he first spoke? I would've enjoyed a whole episode of them just being silent spies, really.

        Loading editor
    • Agreed this quartet of episodes weren't as good as the first nine. I did see some things that I liked, though. Random observations:

      • Disappointed that Metamorpho and Katanna were just kind of there. No lines for Katanna and we only get brief insight into what makes Metamorpho tick.
      • I'm guessing they sent Forager to school because it's the only way to really keep him under cover. Heroes have real lives and Superboy has enough on his plate with keeping an eye on Brion Markov. Though I will admit that "Fred Bugg with two G's" has been stuck in my head and cracking me up.
      • I thought the Cyborg origin was handled well, but they did wrap up that arc too quickly. They could have left it a mystery as to what's really going on with him and how he finally gets control over the Father Box for the second half of the season. It was the same way with Jaime Reyes in Season Two, coming to terms with his Scarab -- they didn't just neatly resolve it at the halfway point.
      • "Nightmare Monkeys" is one of those episodes that requires a second viewing to understand everything that's going on. But upon that second viewing, it was a clever way to tell Beast Boy's story. Now we know he didn't simply get his powers through a blood transfusion with M'gann, we know about his ties to the Doom Patrol and why he left The Team. Also, we get greater insight as to why Wally West's death hit him hard. I'm hoping to see more of him in the second half of Season 3.
      • And, yes, it was fun to see the creative team willing to throw in Teen Titans Go jokes. Though now I wonder if TTG will decide to have Earth-16 Beast Boy pop in for a visit.
      • Nice to see Holocaust get a cameo.
      • It's still too early to tell where things will go with Deathstroke and Tara, though the creative team has shown it will have its own take on stories from the comics. It's possible that Tara Markov actually allowed her uncle to activate her metagene and that Deathstroke is working on behalf of the since-captured Baron Bedlam to finish the objective of bringing Markovia into the Light's domain.
        Loading editor
    • I think the Tara text is a red haring similar to season 1 where they put our eyes everywhere but on Roy. My guesses are that either Brion has been working with his uncle since before Tara went missing or the father box is still active inside Vic and just pretending to be dormant.

    • I'm getting a very strong anti-villain vibe from Cassandra Savage. Also, what's up with Helga picking up the hairbrush, looking very suspicious in the process?

On further viewings, I wonder if they had intended to use Plastic Man in that episode but changed it in the last minute. They even placed him next to Katana here. That's the kind of set up that usually pays off later. But instead, Metamorpho appears out of the blue in episode 10 and does everything that Plastic Man could do. Correct me if I'm work, but isn't his shtick elemental transmutation? He didn't do anything that gas bombs couldn't do. Instead, he shape-shifted into object and hide in plain site, ala Plas.

I know this is unlikely, knowing how Greg and Brandon plan in advance, but still he seems like a last minute addition to make a forced nod to original Outsiders line-up.

        Loading editor
    • I can't imagine Plas saying those "I'm always in pain" lines, though.

        Loading editor
    • Is Plas able to change colour? We haven't seen him do that yet in YJ.

    • No. But neither is the Fab Freak.

      Yes, that is his nickname.

By last minute I mean "before episode 10 was penned and recorded but after it was too late to replace PM's cameo in episode 1".

        Loading editor
    • Writing and recording is so far ahead of animation, I can't see that happening. Plus there's the Stagg appearance which was a clear nod to Metamorpho turning up.

If Hardware and Batwoman were there and Plas was the only one from 301 missing, then that'd be weird, but as it is it's just two characters with overlapping power sets, which is hardly unusual for YJ. And Orphan showed they're quite happy to debut new characters in these new Outsider teams.

        Loading editor
    • Agreed that Metamorpho likely wasn't a last-minute addition. In addition to what Psypher mentioned, Deathstroke's reaction suggests it's the first time he's encountered Metamorpho.

I would hope they do get into Metamorpho's backstory a bit in the second half of the season. And it would be nice to see Katanna get some lines and learn more about what backstory she shares with Lady Shiva.

Doubt they do any backstory for any of these drop-in new characters. Everything on this show thus far has been on a "need-to-know" basis, and I just don't see how his origin would figure into the plot.

    • At this point, I even doubt we get to see more Batwoman and Hardware.

    • What if the Tara we saw is actually Ma'alefa'ak? Her supposed betrayal seems too straightforward and predictable. Unless he's projecting telepathic waves, Miss Martian shouldn't be able to detect him, right? And as she pointed out in "Rescue Op", Tara's geo-force powers could be replicated with telekinesis and all she did so far was lift rocks. Maybe the YJ pin on Judas Contract is that this isn't Tara at all.

        Loading editor
    • It wouldn’t be the first time Onslaught threw a fight. The search for Tara was concluded so fast it felt almost anticlimactic.

And Malefic was introduced with so much prominence I expect we run into him again sooner or later.

        Loading editor
    • She also only dodged Holocaust's fire blasts and was taken down super fast.

        Loading editor
    • It would also explain why the person in the shadows in Rescue Op (who I presume to be Tara) had glowing red eyes. It's the same way M'gann's eyes are when she uses her telekinesis.

Of course, if the Ma'alefa'ak theory is correct, "Tara" needs to avoid running into M'gann any time soon.

    • Something about Victor Stone's attitude rubs me the wrong way. His not helping Cisco get bullied by the two jocks, his more selfish desire to play in the NFL, to his problems with his father(yeah his father was being distant putting work before him but I feel like Victor did not see anything unless it is from his pov. I feel like Victor isn't a hero and his personality really needs to change in the second half of season 3 to become a hero.

      These are the (Teen) Titans.

        Loading editor
    • Where's Starfire then?

        Loading editor
    • The Titans have been around since 1964. Starfire didn't join until 1980. Where's Raven? Where's Hawk and Dove? Where's Golden Eagle? Where's Anima? Where's Kole?

Greg and Brandon have 55 years of Titans lore and 80 years of DC lore to adapt into a very limited amount of "canvas", or story space. They made creative decisions. They've obviously seen no reason to include Starfire; either her storyline would be too big or she was too big to waste on trivial background characters like 13 and Arrowette.

Though you never know what the second half of Outsiders brings. Tamaran's got a long history with the Dominion, the Gordanians and a shedload of other planets in the Vega system; those could easily be changed into trouble with Darkseid. Seeing how they shoe-horned Cyborg in, they may do the same for Starfire - or they might just show Myand'r and Luand'r with three young kids. It would fit less bad in the season than Raven would, at any rate.
