The United States Air Force (commonly abbrieviated to USAF) is the air service branch of the United States' military.

History[]

Early history[]

During the Vietnam War, several USAF personnel were involved in a weapon smuggling ring led by Wade Eiling. In 1968, Captain Nathaniel Adams was framed for the murder of General Clement Lemar, and convicted. Adams was actually set up by Lt. Henry Yarrow, a senior figure in the ring, despite his rank, who used the situation to rid himself of the incorruptible Adams and Lemar, who was part of the ring but had tried to get Yarrow killed. Adams was sent to prison and supoosedly died a year later, but in fact became Captain Atom.[1][2]

Captain Atom assigned the Team to solve the mystery of General Clement Lemar's murder, as he was convinced Nathaniel Admas was innocent. The Team caught up with numerous individuals involved in the Lemar/Adams case, taking them to the Pentagon, Las Vegas, Honolulu, Annapolis and St. George. By the next day, they proved that Adams was framed by Henry Yarrow and his accomplices, but did not connect the case to the smuggling ring's true leader, General Wade Eiling.[1][2]

Following an attack by Reach War Bugs, the town's mayor Thomas Tompkins called in the USAF. Though the Outsiders had handled the War Bugs, their mothership soon arrived and easily dispatched the drones sent by the USAF. The Outsiders managed to bring the warship down before four manned fighters could suffer a similar fate.[7]
