X-Pit

Gretchen Goode gives a tour of the X-Pit.

X-Pits are special prisons used by Granny Goodness for discipline and mind control.

Characteristics[]

X-Pits are pervaded by the Ghost Dimension, and Granny uses them to punish and brainwash her charges. Those in a pit hear a constant refrain: "Obey your Granny, my command is Darkseid's will."

Granny can safely visit a pit in a protective red cube created by Overlord.[1]

After Aquaman and Wyynde came in search of their friends, Gretchen agreed to take them to them and had Overlord open a boom tube. They entered the pit in a protective red cube. Gretchen had Kaldur and Wyynde exit the cube to collect their friends. When they returned, she had Overlord take them back to her house.[2]

From a lab, Gretchen had Overlord take herself, Helga, and Ultra-Humanite into an X-Pit, along with Violet, Brion and Tara. Gretchen admitted that the brainwashing conducted in an X-Pit was not fully effective and temporary, but she believed she had found the key to solving the Anti-Life Equation and wanted to test it. She pushed Violet out of the protective cube. While exposed to the Ghost Dimension, Goode theorized that Violet's healing aura would be repolarized to generate Anti-Life. She tested this on Helga, who she pushed out to be exposed to the aura. As expected, Helga lost her free will, and Goode forced her to reveal her secrets. Helga told Tar and Brion how she viewed them as her children and how she had manipulated them, Violet and Black Lightning to meet her ends. Satisfied with the test, Gretchen had Overlord take them all back to the lab.[1]

When a squad of the Outsiders including Beast Boy and Victor Stone raided one of Goode World Studios lots and found an alien device, Overlord boom tubed them all to an X-Pit. El Dorado, on standby in the Bio-Ship, teleported in to rescue them, but found that he could not get his bearings once inside, and kept reappearing there when he tried to teleport out. Gretchen appeared and put Beast Boy in a cube. She challenged him to a fight for their freedom, and when Gar accepted, merged their cubes. Goode easily trounced Gar, but he bought enough time for Vic to battle Overlord in cyberspace. Once Vic defeated Overlord, everyone was returned to the warehouse.[3]
