Revision as of 10:12, 23 October 2021
Young Justice: Phantoms is the title of the fourth season of Young Justice, preceded by Young Justice: Outsiders, and it will be comprised of 26 episodes. It was announced on July 20, 2019 during the DC Universe panel at San Diego Comic-Con.[4][5]
As of the time of the announcement, the season was in production and the showrunners stated that it will focus on a smaller group of core characters. Later, Brandon Vietti revealed that they will be doubling down on the core season one characters that fans already know and love.[6]
On August 25, Christopher Jones, the illustrator for the Young Justice comics, announced that he had been hired as Storyboard Revisionist.[7]
On September 5, Greg Weisman said on DC Daily that season four would have 26 episodes, and that there would also be another time jump.[3]
By October 2019, voice recording was already underway[8] and storyboarding commenced two months later.[9][10]
On September 12, 2020, Weisman stated in a Q&A session during DC FanDome that their team has been working from home on season four. Pre-production was still underway despite the COVID-19 pandemic, but voice recording was being done individually by voice actors rather than in group sessions.[11]
By November 23, all 26 scripts were finished and 22 episodes were fully recorded.[12]
On March 25, 2021, Weisman announced that nine episodes were finished, five were in post-production and twelve were being animated overseas. Furthermore, pre-production was mostly done.[13]
By July 1, all 26 episodes had been fully recorded, thirteen were ready for release, seven more were in post-production and the last six were being animated. Pre-production was also virtually complete.[14] The entire season is being animated by Studio Mir.[15]
As of September 23, nineteen episodes are ready for release and the remaining seven are in post-production. While a release date has yet to be announced, Weisman says they are in the "home stretch" of completing the season.[16]
As of October 7, twenty episodes are ready for release and the remaining six are in post-production.[17]
On October 16, the first two episodes were made available as a special surprise from DC FanDome. Greg Weisman later reported that starting October 21, one episode would come out weekly every Thursday until December 30.[18]
