A Zeta-Tube is a device that the Justice League, the Team, the Outsiders and STAR Labs use to move its members and allies from place to place via the Zeta-Beam. Sardath uses platforms[1] instead, which are configured differently and more powerful than Zeta-Tubes.[2]
This apparatus consists of a long and wide cylinder capable of fitting large groups of people. At its back end there is a mechanical iris which opens to reveal a projector that shoots Zeta-Beam energy to teleport people in or out of the tunnel.
Zeta-Tubes are powered by replaceble power cores. A supply of power cores is kept on the Watchtower.[3]
History[]
Early history[]
The inception of the Zeta-Tube dates back as far as 1955, by which time Dr. Erdel was already conducting Zeta-Beam experiments, resulting in the transportation of Martian Manhunter from Mars to Earth.[4]
After the foundation of the Justice League in 2003,[5] STAR Labs created the "Erdel Initiative", a division named after Dr. Erdel[4] responsible for maintaining the team's Zeta-Beam technology.[6]
2010[]
The Zeta-Tube network was taken offline on November 11 due to extreme cold weather.[7]
2015[]
The Zeta-Tubes within the area enclosed by the Collector of Worlds's force field around Metropolis were rendered offline on December 1.[8]
2020[]
On March 22, tests began on a Zeta-Tube at the Science Center in Ma'aleca'andra. The Tube was destroyed[9] by Lor-Zod.[10]
Before undertaking a secret mission with the Legion of Super-Heroes, Kid Flash stole a Zeta-Tube power core from the Watchtower's stores.[3]
By September 13, Mars had a working Zeta-Tube.[11]
Specifications and limitations[]
Zeta-Tubes are required at both ends of the journey,[12] and are reliant on weather conditions.[7] These machines are accessed by means of the Justice League Computer, which recognizes Justice League members and allies and reads out their designations when they depart or arrive.
